Alto da Coutada wind farm
About the project
The Alto da Coutada wind farm, located in the district of Vila Real, is Portugal's largest wind energy complex. It has recently been upgraded with state-of-the-art wind turbines, increasing its installed capacity and reinforcing its role in the country's energy transition.
Installed Capacity
Installed capacity The wind farm's installed capacity has been increased to 187 MW, producing over 420 GWh of renewable energy per year. This is enough to power around 130,000 homes with carbon-free electricity.
Achievements
- The upgrade includes six new wind turbines, increasing energy production by 12%.
- Prevents the emission of 170,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.
- One of the first sites in Portugal to be considered for hybrid renewable energy, combining wind and solar power.
Ávila, Spain
Cruz de Hierro hybrid wind-solar park
About the project
Cruz de Hierro is Spain's first hybrid renewable energy park, integrating wind and solar power at the same grid connection point. Located in Santa María del Cubillo (Ávila), this pioneering project maximises renewable energy production while reducing carbon emissions.
Installed Capacity
The wind farm has 22 turbines with an installed capacity of 14.5 MW and has been operational since 2000. The newly added solar farm brings the total capacity to 28.75 MW, with more than 25,000 bifacial solar panels.
Achievements
- Generates over 58 GWh of clean energy annually, enough to power more than 17,000 homes.
- Prevents the emission of over 24,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
- Supports Spain’s energy transition by ensuring a continuous supply of renewable energy through complementary energy sources.
Roman-Grandvilliers, France
Roman-Grandvilliers wind farm
About the project
Located in northern France, the Roman-Grandvilliers wind farm consists of four turbines and represents an important step in EDPR's commitment to developing renewable energy in the region. The wind farm stands out for its impressive turbine size, with blades reaching up to 130 metres - unusual in the area.
Installed Capacity
The wind farm has an installed capacity of 9 MW, producing an estimated 18 GWh per year. This is enough to supply approximately 15,000 people with renewable energy.
Achievements
- Helps avoid the emission of 800 tonnes of CO2 per year.
- Features one of the tallest turbines in the region, improving efficiency and power generation.
- Developed with the involvement of the local community, with 15% of the capital held by SIEGE 27 for joint operation.
Villa Castelli, Italy
Villa Castelli wind farm
About the project
Located in Villa Castelli, in the province of Brindisi, Apulia, this wind farm marks EDPR’s first wind project in Italy. Apulia is a region renowned for its agricultural wealth, including olive oil production, and is now playing a key role in Italy's transition to clean energy.
Installed Capacity
The wind farm consists of 10 Vestas V90 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2 MW, for a total installed capacity of 20 MW.
Achievements
- Produces approximately 40 GWh of renewable energy per year.
- Provides clean electricity for thousands of homes while reducing carbon emissions.
- Connected to the national grid through the Brindisi-Taranto line, strengthening Italy's renewable energy infrastructure.
Golancz, Poland
Golancz wind-solar hybrid park
About the project
The Golancz wind farm, which has been in operation for over a decade, has been integrated with the Konary photovoltaic plant to create Poland's first wind-solar hybrid park. This project underlines EDPR's commitment to innovation and energy transition in Poland.
Installed Capacity
With a combined capacity of 124.5 MWp (115.5 MWac), the hybrid park significantly increases renewable energy production at the site.
Achievements
- Generated over 180 GWh for the Polish grid in its first year of operation.
- Increased the site's renewable energy production by almost 20%.
- Avoided more than 100,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
- Supplies over 51,000 Polish households with clean electricity.
Indiana, North America
Meadow Lake wind farm
About the project
Meadow Lake Wind Farm is located in Benton and White counties in northwest Indiana and consists of six phases. The site benefits from strong, consistent wind resources, making it an ideal location for modern wind power generation. The project has been operational since 2009 and plays an important role in providing clean, renewable energy to the region.
Installed Capacity
The wind farm has a total installed capacity of 802 MW, enough to meet the average energy needs of more than 215,000 homes in Indiana.
Achievements
Meadow Lake Wind Farm makes a significant contribution to the region's economy and environmental sustainability. The project has:
- Created 655 construction jobs and 58 permanent jobs.
- Generated $1,4 billion in capital investment.
- Paid $26 million to landowners and $21,8 million to local governments.
- Spent more than $96 million locally, stimulating economic activity.
- Saved more than 1,4 billion gallons of water annually and reduced air pollution that contributes to smog, acid rain, and climate change.
Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil
Tramandaí wind farm
About the project
The Tramandaí Wind Farm, located in Tramandaí, Rio Grande do Sul State, was the first wind energy project developed by EDPR in Brazil. It is a milestone in EDPR's commitment to wind energy development in South America. With a strong wind resource, Brazil has more than 1,000 MW of installed wind capacity, of which Tramandaí is a significant part.
Installed Capacity
The wind farm has an installed capacity of 80 MW, generating approximately 211,437 MWh of clean energy per year. This is enough to supply a town of more than 200,000 inhabitants, about five times the size of Tramandaí.
Achievements
- The project created 600 direct jobs during its construction.
- Comprises 31 wind turbines, each with a capacity of between 1.9 MW and 2.3 MW.
- Helps reduce dependence on hydroelectric power by providing clean energy during dry periods.
- Contributes to the preservation of native flora and fauna, by meeting strict environmental standards.

Wind power is a core part of EDP's renewable energy portfolio and its strategy for the energy transition. The company develops wind energy projects across different markets, using both onshore and offshore technologies to expand renewable electricity generation.
EDP develops both onshore and offshore wind projects as part of its renewable energy portfolio. Onshore wind uses turbines installed on land, while offshore wind harnesses wind resources at sea, allowing EDP to develop wind energy in different geographical and technological contexts.
EDP develops its offshore wind activities through Ocean Winds, its joint venture with ENGIE. Ocean Winds develops, finances, builds and operates offshore wind projects, combining the experience of both companies in renewable energy and offshore wind.
EDP has experience in floating offshore wind through projects including WindFloat Atlantic, located off the coast of Portugal. Floating technology allows wind turbines to be installed in deeper waters where fixed-bottom foundations may not be suitable, expanding the potential areas available for offshore wind development.
