Environment

Contributing to a regenerative world

Nature is under growing pressure. Climate change, biodiversity loss and resource depletion are accelerating globally, creating interconnected risks for ecosystems, people and businesses.

Our main contribution to the planet is our work to accelerate the energy transition, which is inseparable from the resilience of the natural world. That is why we integrate nature across our corporate strategy through our Environmental Policy, which sets clear principles for protecting ecosystems, preventing air, water and soil pollution, and reducing impacts and dependencies of its activity on nature, while promoting sustainable resource use across all our operations.

EDP’s Supplier Code of Conduct further strengthens these commitments by extending environmental expectations to suppliers and business partners to identify, monitor and mitigate the environmental impacts and risks of their activities, product, materials and means of transport, promoting continuous  improvement and conserving the environment.

Nature Management Approach

To strengthen the Environmental Policy’s commitments, EDP has developed the Nature Management Approach (NMA)—a group-wide framework that guides how we identify, assess and manage nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks and opportunities across the full value chain.

Aligned with TNFD recommendations and the LEAP approach, the NMA describes how EDP integrates nature into decision‑making and embeds protection across the project lifecycle, translating the corporate approach and global goals into an operational framework to be applied at project level, while supporting societal endeavors.

For EDP, protecting and restoring nature is not only vital to halting biodiversity loss; it is also a key enabler of climate resilience, business resilience, and effective risk management. By embracing nature as a solution, EDP strengthens its ability to manage risks and reinforces its commitment to a future where ecosystems, climate objectives, and long‑term business performance advance together.

Enviromental Management System

In line with the Environmental Policy, mitigation of environmental impacts is ensured by our environmental management systems certified in accordance with ISO 14001:2015, aligned with a Corporate Environmental Management System (SIGAC), applicable to the “corporate management of policies, the commitments assumed and the environmental performance of the EDP Group worldwide”, certified since 2008, by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (certificate no. ISO 14001 – 0030519).
