The purpose of this Cookie Policy is to explain how we use the data we collect through cookies and other tracking technologies on this website edp.com ("Website") and on the respective reserved area, when applicable ("Reserved Area") (together: "Digital Channels"), which are operated by EDP, S.A. (“EDP”).

These Digital Channels use cookies not only to ensure that they work correctly, but also to provide you with a better browsing experience, improve the services provided therein, and protect your data.

This Cookie Policy should be read together with our Privacy Policy, in which we explain how we protect your privacy when using cookies and other relevant information.

What are cookies?

Cookies are tiny information files stored by the websites you visit on the browser of the device with which you surf the internet (such as your computer or mobile phone). These files help the website memorize information about your visit and streamline your next visit: storing your actions and preferences for a certain period of time, storing or recognizing your username, the language in which you wish to browse the site, and other settings.

Cookies can be classified according to several criteria.

Based on their purpose, cookies can be:

  • (a)  Strictly necessary cookies - These are cookies that are necessary to ensure the functioning of the website and/or the availability of specific features requested by the user, as well as to store their browsing preferences, whenever they so request and use the same device.
  • (b)  Personalisation cookies - These are accessory cookies (not necessary for the functioning of the website, although they can improve its performance) and their purpose is to customize the user's browsing experience. Some of these cookies may transfer data outside the European Economic Area (“EEA”).
  • (c)  Analytics cookies - These are accessory cookies which collect statistical information in order to help website owners analyze its usage and understand visitor engagement with the website. These cookies may also be used in conjunction with some advertising cookies to quantify interactions with the advertisements presented on the website. Some of these cookies may transfer data outside the EEA.
  • (d) Advertising cookies - These are accessory cookies that aim to make advertising more attractive to both users and advertisers by offering advertisements that are relevant to the user, in order to improve reporting on campaign performance and to avoid placing advertisements which the user has already seen or flagged as irrelevant. Some of these cookies may transfer data outside the EEA.

Considering their life cycle, cookies can be classified as follows:

  • (a)  Session cookies - These are provisional cookies that are deleted from the cookies archive when or shortly after the user closes the browser or application that has been used to browse the Digital Channels. These cookies make it possible, for instance, to analyze traffic patterns on the web, allowing us to identify issues, improve security, and provide a better browsing experience.
  • (b) Persistent cookies - Unlike session cookies, these cookies are not deleted when the user closes the browser or application and are stored on the user's devices. They are used whenever the user visits the website again, allowing us, for instance, to customize the browsing experience according to the user's interests and provide a more customized service.

Considering the party that places them, cookies can be classified as follows:

  • (a)  First-party cookies - These cookies are sent to the user's device from equipment or domains managed by EDP which provide the service requested by the user.
  • (b)  Third-party cookies - These cookies are sent to the user's device from a third-party device or domain over which EDP has no control. In such cases, the third party may process the data collected by cookies, including transferring them outside the EEA,  and EDP may not have the ability to configure the cookies’ operation and(or prevent the transfer of data collected through cookies.

Where certain cookie categories may involve the transfer of data to countries outside the European Economic Area, such as the United States of America, please note that some of these countries do not have an European Commission adequacy decision and may not offer a level of protection equivalent to that in the European Union. For more information about the transfer of your data arising from the use of these cookies please refer to our Privacy Policy

What are our cookies used for?

EDP uses the following types of cookies on the Website and Reserved Area:

  • Strictly necessary cookies;
  • Personalisation cookies;
  • Analytics cookies;
  • Advertising cookies.

It may happen that not all of our Digital Channels use all the types of cookies listed above.

Should I accept the use of cookies?

In the case of strictly necessary cookies, the website cannot function without them. As for other types of cookies, it is up to the user to decide. According to the law in force, our Digital Channels may only use cookies with the user's prior and explicit consent, unless the placement of certain cookies is strictly necessary to provide a service that has been explicitly requested by the user or to provide access to a given feature in such Digital Channels (for instance, providing access to a certain page/feature, such as the Reserved Area).

How can I manage my cookie preferences?

Users may at any time set their preferences regarding the use of non-strictly necessary cookies in our Digital Channels by accessing the OneTrust tool, which is available bellow:

Furthermore, most browsers allow users to control the cookies that are stored on their device and to delete them immediately if they no longer want to allow cookies to be stored on their device. Users can change their browser settings to disable the storage of cookies or to notify them whenever a new cookie is set:

Please be aware that disabling cookies on your browser settings can have an impact on the functioning of our Digital Channels, as the settings in most current browsers are not detailed enough to allow users to disable all cookies that are not strictly necessary for the proper functioning of the websites they visit. On devices offering such features, users can have greater control over their cookies by using free extensions available online.

GOOGLE ANALYTICS

You can also prevent the collection of information via Google Analytics cookies (provided by Google) on any website by installing the tool available here in your browser.
This tool has been developed specifically for Google Analytics and prevents the mechanism that allows the collection of data on how you browse and use our website from sharing information with Google Ireland Limited and other Google entities based in the United States of America (according to information provided by Google).

Changes to the Cookie Policy

EDP may, at any time, without prior notice and with immediate effect, change, expand or revoke this Cookie Policy in part or in whole. Any changes deemed relevant to users will be immediately announced on the Digital Channels, and where changes are made relevant to you in relation to cookies, you will see a pop-up window again so that, depending on the type of cookie concerned, you can access the information and/or consent to its use and storage.
