In Brazil, providing access to solar energy to underprivileged families and communities

Solar Community

Project carried out in partnership with the NGO Revolusolar in the neighbourhood of Jabaeté, Vila Velha – ES, with the aim of bringing solar energy to the local community through a format in which residents themselves are the protagonists of the transformation. In the first phase of the project, R$498,000.00 was invested to install solar panels in three local social organisations (36 panels, 17.7 kWp), provide training for 15 residents in the installation and maintenance of solar panels, make available six solar charging totems for mobile phones (155 W each), and deliver environmental education activities with community leaders. We foresee an additional investment of R$800,000.00 to continue the project in 2024–2025, transitioning to a model of direct benefit for the residents of Jabaeté and aiming to create a solar cooperative for the neighbourhood.

Solar Microusine

With an investment of more than R$500,000, the plant provides 75kW of renewable energy free of charge to the residents of Favela dos Sonhos, in Ferraz de Vasconcelos (SP). Today, more than 150 families benefit from a direct discount on their energy bills, and we expect to reach 200 families by the end of 2024, with the discount continuing until 2026. Each customer will receive an average discount of 50kWh/month on their bill, which equates to around R$35 per month. This discount is cumulative and can become even greater when added to other benefits, such as the Social Electricity Tariff. For example, a family with a monthly consumption of 100 kWh/month would pay around R$71 on their electricity bill. With the social solar plant, they pay R$37 and, if they also have the Social Tariff, the bill can be reduced to R$22.
