Access to energy

Green Education is a social investment program sponsored by EDP that supports students from low-income families by awarding scholarships. Active in the communities where EDP operates, the program promotes equal opportunities through education, contributing to local development and a more inclusive future.

The program’s specific objectives are:

• To reduce the financial barriers that hinder students’ continuity, access, and adequate academic performance at various stages of their education.
• To recognize and reinforce the merit, effort, and academic perseverance of students who pursue their studies in contexts of social or economic vulnerability, thereby promoting equal opportunities.

• To foster collaboration between EDP and the relevant entities in participating municipalities, establishing them as essential to local development, social cohesion, and support for local talent.

  The program is evolving toward a unified model, focused on a comprehensive strategy but implemented through local partnerships that ensure a response tailored to the needs of each community. Therefore, support for students is going to be provided through intermediary entities, such as municipal councils and local social organizations, which are responsible for identifying and monitoring beneficiaries throughout the process. This model allows for the capacity-building of local partners and the development of a partnership between EDP and the communities

Green Education has been progressively broadening its reach, consolidating its presence in Portugal and Spain and expanding into new regions. After its launch in Romania, the program aims to continue growing, reaching countries such as Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Poland, reinforcing EDP’s commitment to education and to the development of the communities where it is present.
