EDP Social Impact In Review 2025
Building a Fairer and More Sustainable Future
Throughout 2025, the energy transition continued to establish itself as one of the main structural challenges and opportunities of our time, playing a decisive role in promoting a more sustainable development model, based on environmental preservation, the efficient use of natural resources, and the creation of shared value for society.
In this context, EDP’s actions focused primarily on the communities where the Company operates, across multiple geographies, with the aim of promoting sustainable local development and strengthening long-term trust-based relationships with different stakeholders.
A fair and inclusive energy transition
EDP’s commitment to a just energy transition materialised through a set of initiatives with direct social impact. These included investment in solar energy projects for social organisations and low-income families, the development of off-grid solar solutions in communities without access to electricity, and support for housing renovation through the promotion of energy efficiency solutions aimed at tackling energy poverty.
Skills development and the future of work
Recognising that the energy transition also entails a structural transformation of the labour market, EDP strengthened its investment throughout the year in training, upskilling and reskilling programmes. These initiatives aimed to prepare individuals and communities for current and future jobs in the renewable energy sector, contributing to higher employability, reduced inequalities, and the creation of sustainable and long-lasting economic opportunities in the regions where the Company operates.
Promotion of local entrepreneurship
Support for entrepreneurship was also a key pillar of EDP’s social intervention. The Company promoted and supported local entrepreneurial initiatives, particularly in areas close to its power plants and energy assets, contributing to the economic dynamism of these territories, strengthening local value chains, and fostering innovation ecosystems linked to energy and sustainability.
Education and energy literacy
Education and energy literacy remained central pillars of this strategy. In 2025, EDP invested in raising awareness and educating children and young people about different types of energy — renewable and non-renewable — promoting a better understanding of the role of energy in society and the challenges associated with climate change, and contributing to the development of more informed, aware and engaged citizens.
Environmental protection and heritage
Additionally, EDP strengthened a strategic pillar dedicated to environmental projects and the preservation of natural and cultural heritage. This approach included support for biodiversity conservation, ecosystem enhancement, and respect for the cultural heritage of the territories where the Company operates, promoting a balanced relationship between energy development, environmental protection, and social cohesion.
Response to social emergencies
At the same time, EDP maintained an active role in responding to social emergencies, mobilising financial, technical and human resources to support communities affected by extreme weather events, natural disasters or situations of heightened social vulnerability. This intervention was carried out in coordination with local authorities, civil society organisations and specialised partners, ensuring a swift response to immediate needs and contributing to the restoration of basic conditions of safety and well-being.
