EDP is the only Portuguese company recognised by Ethisphere as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies
In the year it celebrates its 50th anniversary, EDP is one of the 138 companies recognised by Ethisphere and the only Portuguese company included in the World’s Most Ethical Companies list. This is the 15th time EDP has been globally recognised for its ethical business practices.
EDP has once again been recognised as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies® 2026, a distinction awarded by Ethisphere, a leading international authority in defining and promoting standards of ethical business practices.
This recognition comes in a particularly symbolic year for EDP, as the company celebrates 50 years of activity, and marks the 15th time it has been included in this international list as the only Portuguese company. It reflects a consistent track record in integrating ethics, compliance and corporate governance into its strategy and into its relationships with employees, customers, partners and other stakeholders.
In 2026, 138 companies from 17 countries and 40 industries were recognised. This year’s list includes 19 companies being recognised for the first time and six organisations that have received the distinction for the 20th time.
As it marks the 20th edition of the World’s Most Ethical Companies, Ethisphere highlights a group of organisations that continue to raise the bar for business integrity, embedding ethics into day-to-day decision-making and long-term strategy.
“Congratulations to EDP for achieving recognition as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies®. As we mark the 20th class of honorees, this group continues to raise the bar for business integrity by embedding ethics into everyday decision-making and long-term strategy. Companies with strong ethics, compliance, and governance programs are built for better long-term performance,” said Erica Salmon Byrne, Ethisphere’s Chief Strategy Officer and Executive Chair.
The World’s Most Ethical Companies® assessment is based on the Ethics Quotient®, which requires participating companies to demonstrate, through concrete evidence, that ethics and compliance are not merely theoretical principles, but are effectively implemented and embedded in day-to-day operations, supported by more than 200 documented proof points. It covers areas such as ethical culture, governance, compliance programmes, corporate social responsibility and community impact, ensuring a structured and rigorous evaluation.
Ethisphere’s recognition highlights a journey marked by the integration of ethics as a central element of EDP’s governance and conduct, guided by its Code of Ethics, a reference document first published in 2005 and regularly reviewed, with the most recent update approved at the end of 2024. This commitment is supported by Ethics Committees, Speak Up channels and a global structure dedicated to ethics and compliance. EDP also continuously promotes training and awareness initiatives, reinforcing the integration of ethics into the daily work of all employees.
This approach has enabled EDP to align performance, responsibility and the creation of sustainable value, strengthening trust in the markets and communities where it operates. This recognition further reinforces EDP’s 50-year journey, marked by the integration of ethics and integrity as central pillars of its operations and long-term strategy.
