EDP marks its 50th anniversary by giving back more than 50,000 hours to communities

"Time to Give Back" initiative, created to celebrate EDP's 50th anniversary, transformed a corporate milestone into a global movement of volunteering and community engagement, generating more than 63,000 hours of social impact.

EDP has exceeded the goal it set to celebrate its 50 years of history.

The challenge was to mobilise employees, their families, friends and partners to dedicate 50,000 hours to society through volunteering and social impact initiatives by 30 June, the date on which EDP celebrated its 50th anniversary.

The result surpassed expectations: more than 63,000 hours were dedicated to supporting communities and social and environmental causes across the different countries where the Group operates.

This became one of EDP's largest global initiatives as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations. The project was born from the belief that celebrating half a century of history would only be meaningful if the milestone translated into tangible, positive action for the communities that have accompanied the company's growth over the past five decades. Rather than simply looking back, EDP chose to turn its anniversary into a collective commitment to the future.

Over the past few months, more than 200 initiatives brought together thousands of employees, family members, friends and partners across dozens of countries, reinforcing the idea that creating positive impact is a shared responsibility. Activities ranged from environmental protection actions, social inclusion initiatives, circular economy workshops, educational programmes and skills-based volunteering, to challenges such as the "50 Minutes for a Cause" Walkathon, which combined wellbeing and solidarity through donations made by EDP to social organisations.

"EDP's 50th anniversary represents much more than a milestone in the company's history. It is an opportunity to bring thousands of people together around a shared purpose: giving back to the communities some of the energy they have always given us. The true legacy of this movement is not only the more than 63,000 hours achieved, but the demonstration that when we engage our people and our partners, we can create meaningful, lasting impact in the communities we serve."

More than a commemorative campaign, Time to Give Back reinforces EDP's volunteering culture, which has been part of the company for the past 15 years and remains one of the pillars of its social impact strategy.

The challenge's results add to the impact already achieved through EDP's volunteering programme. In 2025 alone, the company mobilised more than 2,400 volunteers worldwide, who contributed over 22,000 volunteering hours.

Time to Give Back is part of EDP's global social impact strategy, delivered through EDP Y.E.S. – You Empower Society, the programme that brings together the company's social initiatives across the areas of energy, planet, skills, community and culture. In 2025, EDP invested €27 million in social projects, supported around 1,900 organisations, and helped improve the lives of more than seven million people across the geographies where it operates.
