EDP completes solar project for Mercedes-Benz USA in California
The project will enhance the energy efficiency of operations, reduce costs, and support the company's decarbonization goals, in a context of growing energy demand in the state.
The new rooftop solar installation at Mercedes-Benz USA Parts Distribution Center will help power daily operations at the facility while lowering energy costs and enhancing long-term utility price stability for the location. By generating clean electricity onsite, the system reduces exposure to utility rate volatility and supports reliable energy supply amid rising power demand across California. For EDP, this reinforces its position as a trusted global energy partner, chosen by leading brands worldwide.
In its first year, the installation is expected to generate more than $18,200 in electricity cost savings. During construction, the project supported 65 jobs.
Developed by EDP Renewables NA Distributed Generation, the decentralized solar energy company for North America in the EDP group, the 720 kW system transforms unused rooftop space into a productive energy asset, generating renewable electricity without additional land use. The project supports Mercedes-Benz commitment to responsible resource use while contributing to California’s clean energy goals.
EDP, as a trusted energy provider in California, already operates 1.2 MW of clean energy assets across the state, bringing extensive experience in developing, constructing, and operating renewable energy projects.
EDPR NA Distributed Generation is an important player in distributed generation in the US, owning and operating over 300 MWp solar and storage assets. In California alone, EDPR NA DG spans more than 180 projects, with more than 80 MWp currently in operation.
