EDP invests in training to meet the growing demand for talent in renewable energy
Applications for both programmes – solar and wind energy – are now open, reinforcing the company’s commitment to creating training and employment opportunities in the communities where it develops renewable energy projects.
Applications are now open for the first edition of Energy Professionals Solar, a solar energy training programme, and for the second edition of Energy Professionals Wind, focused on wind energy, in Portugal. Integrated into the Skills – Energy Professional programme, both initiatives aim to equip professionals with the skills required for the renewable energy sector, while promoting local talent development and creating employment opportunities in the communities where EDP develops renewable energy projects.
Energy Professionals Wind is aimed at residents of the municipalities of Alenquer, Torres Vedras and Peniche, while Energy Professionals Solar targets residents of Portalegre, Mação, Vila Velha de Ródão, Proença-a-Nova and Nisa. Applications for both programmes are open until 12 September and are available to individuals aged between 18 and 45 who have completed compulsory education and are available to travel. Training is scheduled to begin on 21 September and is expected to run until the end of the year.

The main new feature of this edition is the launch of the first Energy Professionals Solar programme in Portugal. Designed to train solar plant operation and maintenance technicians, the course takes place at the Energy Transition Training Centre in Portalegre, combining theoretical and practical learning to prepare professionals for a fast-growing sector.
At the same time, EDP continues the Energy Professionals Wind programme with its second edition in Portugal. The training, delivered by Cedros and certified by the Global Wind Organisation (GWO), combines online and face-to-face learning, including a practical component in Setúbal, technical visits and internationally recognised certification for participants who successfully complete the course. The wind programme is part of an initiative already implemented by EDP in Spain, where it has contributed to training professionals and creating employment opportunities in communities impacted by the development of renewable energy projects.
The decision to continue the wind programme follows the results achieved in the first edition, held in the municipalities of Montalegre and Boticas. One month after completing the training, around half of the participants had already secured employment, demonstrating the programme’s potential to promote skilled jobs and generate a positive impact in the territories where EDP develops renewable energy projects.
The initiative is supported by partners including APREN, Vestas, CME, Cedros and the Energy Transition Training Centre, and is part of Y.E.S. – You Empower Society, EDP’s global social investment programme, which supports projects with a positive impact on communities through education, training, inclusion and the promotion of opportunities.
