EDP Atlantic Mission

Mission

The biggest record to break is to change the world with the energy of the wind

EDP Atlantic Mission was the biggest challenge that Francisco Lufinha undertook. The kite surfer crossed the Atlantic Ocean alone in a kite boat. The plan was to reuse an existing sailboat, adapt it to the kite's traction, use renewable energies (wind, sun and water) and safely make this huge ocean crossing. With this crossing, the athlete and EDP intended to raise the awareness of society for the preservation of the oceans.

Do you know how many names were on Lufinhas boat?

In the incredible mission to cross the Atlantic alone, more than 3,000 adventurers joined Francisco Lufinha and left their names on the boat that took him to the Caribbean, pulled by the force of the wind, the sun, the water and an ocean of people!

Who is Francisco Lufinha?

Francisco Lufinha is from Lisbon, married and the father of 2 children. Early on, he developed a strong connection with the sea. After sailing, surfing, wakeboarding and windsurfing, it was Kitesurf that aroused his greatest interest. He completed his Master in Engineering and Industrial Management at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), but nautical activities are his passion, as he carries out extreme oceanic projects and promoting the preservation of the Ocean. He holds the World Record for the Longest Kitesurf Trip without stopping (2015), after travelling 862 km of Portuguese Sea for 48 intense standing hours on the board. In 2017, he completed the crossing of the Portuguese Sea territory, after connecting the Azores to the continent in 10 days. Francisco never stops developing new challenges in the Sea.
