When we surf, we choose Earth
The wave of the future is in our hands
Water was one of the first elements to mark EDP's history through hydroelectric production several decades ago in Portugal, Spain, and Brazil. We have supported surfing and the growth of the sport since 2011, maintaining common values and a shared passion for the ocean and nature.
Over these years, we have developed a distinctive and highly relevant positioning in surfing, focusing on competition, training, and social responsibility.
An intensive training and ambition program
Developed in collaboration with leading partners and with a strong international component, the EDP Surf for Tomorrow team project reflects our commitment to future generations, promoting a healthy lifestyle and sustainability, and the preservation of the planet.
This high-competition program, designed to place a group of promising athletes at the highest level of world surfing, is now in its fourth edition, with a team composed of six Portuguese and Spanish surfers. In 2024, Afonso Faria, an adaptive surfing athlete, joined the team, making it more inclusive.
This team is trained and guided by the former World Tour duo, José Seabra and Tiago “Saca” Pires, who, through a demanding training and mentoring program, provide the necessary conditions for the athletes to prepare to compete in international circuits, taking Iberian surfing further.

Afonso Faria
Afonso has always been an athlete. At 16, he was already a surfer and competed in karts, an age at which he suffered an accident that resulted in a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). Despite the difficulties, he found in adaptive surfing a new passion and a reason to keep competing.
Adaptive surfing gave him back his joy of living and motivated him to set a new goal: to make surfing a profession and win the World Championship. To achieve this, he counts on the support of a dedicated team both on land and in the water.
To date, he has won 3rd place at the European Adaptive Surfing Championship and 14th at the World Championship in California in 2023.
Annette Etxabarri
Although she is already a champion in her own right, Annette's journey is only just beginning. Her personality has shaped her surfing to be explosive and powerful, as we witness spectacular moments of fluidity, risk and determination.
Annette represents the energy to keep building better horizons for the future.
Guilherme Ribeiro
Born and raised in Costa da Caparica, Gui's deep connection to the ocean began at an early age. Known for his strategic approach to competition and his commitment to excellence, Gui is a shining example for aspiring surfers around the world, as we see in him a surfer whose intelligence, professionalism and passion drive him to new heights both in and out of the water.
His journey to the top tiers of professional surfing reached a monumental milestone with his qualification for the prestigious Challenger Series.
Jaime Veselko
His natural aptitude, combined with a voracious drive to keep getting better, positions him as one of the most promising talents in the surfing world. From the tubular waves of Carcavelos, Jaime has been travelling the world and shaping his surfing to take on the world's best surfers.

The following initiatives combine sustainable sports practices with social responsibility, reinforcing our focus on inclusion and investment in the training of future generations. Thus, we continue EDP's decade-long connection with surfing to positively impact the sport and communities.
EDP Heat of the Day
An initiative that takes place at the EDP Ericeira Pro championship, which converts the score of the best heat of the week into a donation of solar panels to be given to institutions from the north to the south of Portugal.
EDP Donate
An initiative promoted at the surfing championships where EDP is present, encouraging the donation of surf equipment still in usable condition. All collected equipment is delivered to surf schools to be used in classes with institutions.
EDP Open Sessions
The EDP Open Sessions, held from northern to southern Portugal, give children and young people from underprivileged institutions the opportunity to experience surfing. This contact with the sport fosters concern for the oceans and respect for nature in the younger generations.
This project involves the young surfers from the EDP Surf for Tomorrow team, inspiring participating children for a better future. It is also an opportunity for the team to experience and recognize the importance of social impact projects and their contribution to communities, a crucial factor in their personal and professional development as surfers.
Beach Cleanups
Through the EDP volunteer team, we promote beach maintenance and cleanup initiatives throughout the year, reinforcing this message through our presence at surfing championships.
