Today, Moody's Investors Service ("Moody's") placed EDP on review for possible downgrade mirroring Moody's earlier rating action to place the Republic of Portugal on review.

In accordance with Moody's rating methodology for government related issuers, EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. ("EDP") is a government related issuer which has an element of potential government support incorporated within its rating.

The review will consider whether the one-notch uplift of EDP is still warranted in the context of a potential downgrade of Portugal but points out that EDP is a broadly-diversified company with a significant proportion of regulated businesses under mainly well-established regulatory regimes in Portugal, Spain, US and Brazil.
