On May 3, 2012, Barclays Plc ("Barclays") notified EDP -Energias de Portugal,S.A. ("EDP"), in accordance with article 20 of the Portuguese Securities Code, about an increase of its participation in the EDP share capital. As a result of the increase Barclays holds 75,223,922 ordinary shares of EDP, which corresponds to 2.06% of EDP's share capital and 2.06% of the respective voting rights.

The significant shareholding resulted from the borrow, on the 30 April 2012, of 20,000,000 shares which corresponds to 0.55% of the voting rights in EDP by Barclays Capital Inc.

Barclays also informed that the chain of entities, relevant for the calculation of the significant shareholding in accordance with number 1 of article 20 of the Portuguese Securities Code, are the following:

- Barclays Bank PLC, which holds directly 1,597,696 ordinary shares of EDP, corresponding to 0.04% of EDP's share capital and 0.04% of the respective voting rights;

-  Barclays Bank PLC - France, which holds 1,111,950 ordinary shares of EDP, corresponding to 0.03% of EDP's share capital and 0.03% of the respective voting rights;

- Barclays Bank Trust Company Ltd, which holds 4,500 ordinary shares of EDP, corresponding to 0.0001% of EDP's share capital and 0.0001% of the respective voting rights;

- Barclays Capital Inc, which holds 29,431,000 ordinary shares of EDP, corresponding to 0.80% of EDP's share capital and 0.80% of the respective voting rights;

- Barclays Capital Securities Ltd, which holds directly 21,964,824 ordinary shares of EDP and 895,459 shares via financial instruments, corresponding to 0.63% of EDP's share capital and 0.63% of the respective voting rights;

-    Barclays Wealth Managers Portugal – SGFIM SA, which holds 218,493 ordinary shares of EDP, corresponding to 0.01% of EDP's share capital and 0.01% of the respective voting rights;

-  Barclays Merchant Bank (Singapore) Ltd, which holds 20,000,000 ordinary shares of EDP, corresponding to 0.55% of EDP's share capital and 0.55% of the respective voting rights;
