EDP and Heineken® serve solar-powered beer at NOS Alive
On the 10th, 11th and 12th of July, EDP will once again join Heineken®, the official beer of NOS Alive, to give renewable energy a fresh boost at the 17th edition of the festival, held at Passeio Marítimo de Algés, in Lisbon. The beers will be served with the energy of the sun.
This year, EDP Comercial will install more than 100 solar panels in the main spaces of the Heineken® brand in the event grounds — including the Heineken Bars, the Central Bar, and the Heineken Stand. Batteries will also be installed to store the excess energy produced during the day, so that the bars continue to be lit at night with clean energy. With this initiative, it is expected that it will be possible to serve beer with solar energy, day and night, during the three days of the event, contributing to the reduction of the carbon footprint.
In this edition, bifacial solar panels will be installed, with an installed power of 70 kWp. These panels, which are bifacial and absorb solar energy from both sides, use an innovative technology that allows for more efficient use of energy. Four batteries for energy storage will also be integrated, with capacities of 21 kWh and 14 kWh, and on average, it is estimated that this storage solution will allow an independence from the electricity grid of more than 50%.
This partnership has as its main objective to contribute to reducing Heineken®'s environmental impact at this festival and is based on the premise defended by EDP that it will only be possible to accelerate the energy transition if we take advantage of all available spaces to install small solar plants.
In 2024, the collaboration between EDP and Heineken® had already proven its impact: more than 100 solar panels were also installed in the brand's spaces, allowing 100% of the draft beers served over the three days of the festival to be powered exclusively by solar energy at the Heineken® Central Bar.
As a leader in the energy transition, EDP is committed to developing innovative and sustainable solutions that contribute to achieving decarbonization goals. In this partnership with Heineken®, it now reaffirms its commitment to a greener, more conscious and more sustainable future.
