Uma parceria de inovação que aproveita a engenharia portuguesa

Congratulations to NEW on its 10 years of activity. I perfectly remember the creation of this R&D center and the first steps we took together in SENSIBLE, a pioneering demonstrator aimed to integrate storage technologies, microgeneration, and decentralized renewable sources into energy networks. 

Our participation in SENSIBLE, funded by Horizon 2020 program, was fundamental in establishing the foundations to attract to Portugal international centers of expertise in crucial areas of the energy transition. And why was that? Because our shareholder, Siemens AG, in its investment decisions, prioritizes the existence of local partners committed to developing pilot projects, proofs of concept, and innovative technology demonstrators that can be scaled, expanded, and replicated internationally. 

In this context, our collaboration with EDP has been exemplary: a fertile ground for pioneering initiatives, where knowledge sharing and mutual learning drive joint evolution and build the foundations for the future. 

Being part of the SENSIBLE teams also provided us with valuable knowledge in energy storage, more relevant today than ever, which we have successfully applied to operational systems in, among other locations, the Azores, Madeira and Romania. 

But our partnership with NEW goes beyond technology. Together, we were able to develop innovative and attractive business models, aligned with the strategies of EDP Group companies. We were also able to take Portuguese engineering around the world, which became synonymous of quality, innovation and a guarantee of success. 

I am proud to emphasize that EDP has been, for many years, a strategic and crucial partner in innovation, with whom we maintain a relationship of enormous trust and mutual respect. This partnership has resulted in the development of fundamental projects applied in the national electrical system, including smart meters, energy storage, control and protection, medium voltage and microgrids. Therefore, I congratulate once again, on behalf of the entire Siemens Portugal team, EDP for the significant milestone of NEW's 10 years of activity. May it continue this way for many years to come, leading innovation and tackling the challenges of the energy transition.
