  • Miguel Stilwell d'Andrade is participating in one of the 'high level' sessions of the Climate Ambition Summit, one of the key events on the agenda of the United Nations summit on climate action, which is taking place this week in New York.
EDP is the only company taking part in the meeting that brings together leaders and organisations from all over the world.

Miguel Stilwell d’Andrade, CEO of EDP, is taking part in the Climate Ambition Summit this Wednesday 20 September, one of the most important events on the Climate Week agenda in New York. Convened by the Secretary-General of the United Nations with the aim of accelerating action by companies, governments, decision-makers and civil society, this climate ambition summit is attended by a number of corporate and business leaders and civil society organisations, and EDP is the only company present.

Miguel Stilwell d'Andrade will take part in one of the thematic panels, dedicated to Net Zero targets, leadership and regulation, in which he will have the opportunity to present and debate the commitments to decarbonisation and carbon neutrality through the group's energy transition plans and projects.

The session, "Credibility of Net Zero through 'Integrity Matters' implementation: Leadership by early movers and doers and the role of regulation", will take place at the United Nations headquarters in New York at 2pm (local time) and can be followed online via UN Web TV at this link.

The session will also feature Laurence Tubiana, CEO of the European Climate Foundation and one of the main architects of the Paris Agreement, and Catherine McKenna, founder and director of Climate and Nature Solutions, who launched the Women Leading on Climate project at COP26.

The latest scientific assessment by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has once again emphasised the urgency of taking action. The damage caused by the climate crisis is already extensive and global greenhouse gas emissions continue to reach record levels. The planet needs immediate and deep reductions in emissions, now and over the next three decades, to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels and thus avoid the worst impacts.

In this sense, the Climate Ambition Summit represents a key political milestone to demonstrate that there is a collective global will to accelerate the pace and scale of a just transition to a more equitable global economy, based on renewable energies and resilient to climate change.
