The award of Lot 2 further strengthens grids as one of the Group’s strategic priorities in Brazil.

EDP has secured Lot 2 in Brazil’s 4/2026 transmission auction, held this Friday, 30 October, by the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (Aneel) in São Paulo. Located in the states of Goiás and Bahia, the project includes new transmission lines and substation expansions aimed at strengthening the country’s electricity infrastructure. The project comprises 65 kilometres of transmission lines, 300 MVA of associated capacity and an estimated investment of BRL 316.9 million (approximately €53 million).

Lot 2 includes a 65-kilometre transmission line and a substation with 300 MVA of transformation capacity, connecting the regions of Iaciara and Guarani de Goiás, in the state of Goiás, and Correntina, in the state of Bahia. With a 48-month implementation period, the project will help strengthen grid coverage in north-eastern Goiás and expand EDP’s presence in the state, a strategic region for the growth of its transmission business.

Securing Lot 2 will also enable EDP to leverage the experience it has already built in the region, generating efficiencies in both project implementation and future operations, while further strengthening relationships with local communities and stakeholders. The lot will add BRL 26.53 million in Annual Permitted Revenue (RAP) to the Group’s portfolio, representing a 53.29% discount to the maximum RAP set for the auction.

EDP’s growth in this segment comes at a time of significant transformation in Brazil’s electricity infrastructure. Since 2017, EDP has invested more than BRL 8.5 billion in transmission infrastructure and projects across 12 states: Goiás, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Maranhão, Espírito Santo, Acre, Rondônia, Piauí, Tocantins and Bahia. The company currently has 2,032 kilometres of transmission lines in operation. Including assets both under construction and in operation, EDP’s transmission network extends to 3,001 kilometres. Between 2026 and 2028, the company plans to invest approximately BRL 3.7 billion in the development of new projects and the expansion of its transmission business.

In addition to meeting growing electricity demand, investment in transmission is essential to support the expansion of renewable energy and the continued development of Brazil’s electricity system. The modernisation and development of new infrastructure strengthen system reliability and supply capacity, benefiting the electricity sector, economic activity and society as a whole.

EDP in Brazil operates across the entire electricity value chain in South America, including generation, transmission, distribution and energy supply and trading. In 2026, the company celebrates its 50th anniversary globally and 30 years in Brazil, as well as a decade of operations in the country’s transmission segment. Since 2005, EDP has invested BRL 44.7 billion in Brazil.

Today, the company operates in Brazil a 100% renewable generation portfolio, with 4 GW of installed capacity, as well as more than 3,000 kilometres of transmission lines. In distribution, it serves around 4 million customers in the states of Espírito Santo and São Paulo. A pioneer in Brazil’s retail energy market, EDP remains one of the leading players in the segment and ranks among the country’s four largest energy retailers.
