EDP delivers residential renovations to 60 families in São Paulo and Espírito Santo focusing on electrical safety
EDP, a company operating in all segments of the electric sector, has completed renovations of 60 homes in the Miguel Badra community in Suzano (SP) and Acréscimo das Laranjeiras in Serra (ES), in partnership with the NGO Moradigna. Started in September with an investment of about R$ 690,000, the renovations were delivered in December, prioritizing the enhancement of electrical infrastructure. This resulted in safer and more efficient installations that protect families from risks such as short circuits and overloads, while also promoting energy savings and more dignified living conditions.
In addition to the renovations, the project included activities focused on raising awareness about energy use. The beneficiary families participated in individual workshops about conscious energy consumption in November, tailored to their realities and needs. In August, open workshops were held where community residents had the opportunity to learn more about reducing consumption, reading their bills, and electrical safety, further increasing the social impact of the project.
“Improving access to energy and promoting awareness, savings, and safety are ways we contribute to the social development of communities in our area of operation,” emphasizes Rafael Bittar, Sustainability Specialist at EDP.
The first stages of the project took place in July, when EDP and Moradigna teams visited the communities and conducted a social and technical assessment to understand the families’ and homes’ situations and determine which would be included in the project. The selection considered criteria such as social vulnerability, income source, and the property’s registration status with the relevant authorities. The residents’ interest in regularizing their property also influenced the selection process.
In recent years, EDP and the NGO Moradigna have worked together on several initiatives that helped improve the quality of life in communities within the company’s operating regions and expanded access to safe, renewable energy. In 2024, in Jabaeté, Vila Velha (ES), improvements were made to the electrical infrastructure of three community institutions (Projeto Tons de Amoras, Instituto GG5, and Associação de Nova Jabaeté) to make it possible to implement solar energy systems at these sites. Through the EDP nas Escolas Award in 2023, three winning educational institutions—EM Nossa Senhora das Dores and EMEF Jorge Eneas Sperb in Tramandaí (RS), and Escola Severino Barbosa in Areial (PB)—received renovations that revitalized their spaces in 2024.
