The entrepreneurship programme debuts in Portugal as EDP launches its sixth edition in Spain, giving the project an Iberian dimension that fosters company creation and community development across various regions. Applications are open, offering financial support of up to €20,000 per project.

The first edition of the Entama entrepreneurship programme arrives in Portugal this month, in an EDP initiative that aims to help launch and consolidate small business projects in the Minho and Trás-os-Montes regions. Inspired by the success of the programme launched by EDP in Spain - which this year reaches its sixth edition - Entama is now making its debut in Portugal with the same objective: to stimulate the local economy, foster job creation, promote equal opportunities and help people settle in less densely populated areas.

The programme aims to support projects that stand out for their viability, sustainability and positive impact on the territory, with funding of up to 20,000 euros per project. Applications are now open and run until 4 July. The selected projects will be announced on 15 September and are expected to be implemented throughout 2026.

Entama - named after a word of Asturian origin meaning “to start something” - aims to be an engine for transforming local communities by promoting entrepreneurship aligned with values such as the valorisation of local resources, sustainable tourism, new local services and innovative solutions and the energy transition. Promoting equal opportunities is another of the objectives of the programme, which aims to help strengthen entrepreneurship and the inclusion of women in the labour market.

In addition to financial support, Entama provides an online platform that will allow applicants to submit their proposals, access resources and establish partnerships with other local entrepreneurs - who in Spain go by the name of ‘entamadores’ - promoting an active community of innovation and collaboration.

Created by EDP in Spain, Entama has already boosted 56 projects with more than 600,000 euros of investment in regions such as Asturias and Cadiz, in areas such as sustainable tourism, the valorisation of local products and waste management. Projects such as the tourist train in Brañagallones or Agrolinera for dairy waste are examples of the initiative's positive impact.

With the launch in Portugal, which reinforces the Iberian vocation of the entrepreneurship programme, EDP is taking another step in its mission to create sustainable and resilient communities, actively contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, in particular SDG 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities.

Applications and regulations are available on the Entama programme's official website.
