EDP signs new agreement to support the decarbonization of the food industry in Poland
EDP, a European leader in local energy generation for companies, through EDP Energia Polska, has signed an agreement with the Döhler Group, a global producer of natural ingredients and integrated solutions for the food and beverage industry. The partnership covers the construction, operation, and energy supply from two photovoltaic installations: one at Döhler’s production plants in Łęczeszyce, south of Warsaw (Poland), and the other one at SVZ’s facilities in Tomaszów Lubelski, southeast of Warsaw.
EDP will install over 4,300 solar panels on the ground that will allow these companies to produce part of their own energy locally. With a combined capacity of 2.2 MWp, these systems are expected to generate 2.4 GWh of clean electricity annually and avoid more than 1,500 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. This is equivalent to the amount of carbon dioxide absorbed annually by almost 10,000 mature trees. The installation is scheduled to be commissioned in 2026, showcasing how solar solutions installed in the companies’ facilities are a fast, reliable, and profitable way of decarbonizing energy supply.
By installing EDP’s distributed generation system, Döhler Group can significantly decarbonise its operations while also reducing exposure to grid-related costs, including access and electricity procurement charges. This deal provides long-term cost visibility and energy price stability, while enabling Döhler to benefit from on-site renewable generation without allocating capital away from its core manufacturing activities or impacting its balance sheet. As a result, the company improves both its sustainability performance and operational efficiency, further reducing its overall carbon footprint.
This agreement reinforces EDP’s position as a trusted partner for major corporate clients with significant energy needs, helping them power their operations sustainably while maintaining the highest standards of quality and efficiency. It also showcases EDP’s ability to deliver clean energy solutions across all the European markets where the company operates, supporting the decarbonization of entire value chains.
EDP entered the Polish market in 2007 through EDP Renewables. In 2020, the group expanded its activities in the country with EDP Energia Polska, which offers photovoltaic solutions tailored to business customers. In Poland, EDP has installed over 1 GW in utility-scale renewable projects and secured nearly 270 MWp in contracted distributed energy projects for companies nationwide.
Recently, EDP, through EDP Energia Polska, introduced a new offer integrating battery energy storage systems (BESS) installed behind-the-meter in its decentralized solar projects. This flexible solution is adapted to the needs of clients from various sectors and highlights EDP’s commitment to innovation at every stage of the energy transition.
What is the total capacity and scale of the project?
EDP will install 2.2 MWp of ground-mounted solar capacity, comprising over 4,300 panels.
How much clean electricity will these solar plants generate each year?
Together, the installations are expected to produce around 2.4 GWh annually.
When are the installations scheduled to be commissioned?
The systems are scheduled for commissioning in 2026.
Where in Poland will the new solar installations be located?
The photovoltaic systems will be built at Döhler Group’s production site in Łęczeszyce, south of Warsaw, and at SVZ’s facilities in Tomaszów Lubelski, southeast of Warsaw.
What benefits will Döhler and SVZ gain at their Polish facilities?
On-site generation will lower exposure to grid-related costs, provide long-term price visibility, and improve sustainability performance without impacting the balance sheet.
What makes on-site solar attractive in Poland?
It’s a fast, reliable, and profitable route to decarbonize energy supply, improve operational efficiency, and reduce exposure to grid price volatility.
What experience does EDP have in the Polish market?
EDP entered Poland in 2007 through EDP Renewables and, through EDP Energia Polska, has since installed over 1 GW of utility-scale renewables and contracted nearly 270 MWp of distributed generation for companies nationwide.
Is this part of EDP’s broader European decarbonization strategy?
Yes, the partnership shows EDP’s ability to deliver clean energy solutions across European markets, helping decarbonize entire value chains.
