The incentive to the investigation of Portuguese contemporary history
The Mário Soares Award - EDP Foundation is an initiative lasting since 1998 that aims to stimulate investigation on the contemporary history of Portugal and publicly recognize its importance for the comprehension and knowledge of the Portugal of today.
This award supports and promotes original investigation essays completed under themes of interest and relevance for contemporary Portuguese history. Among them, we’ve identified History and other subjects in social sciences, arts, and humanities.
In this sense, essays developed by national or foreign authors are accepted individually or collectively prepared in the award’s official languages: Portuguese, English, French, Spanish, and Italian.
Young researchers taking a master’s or doctorate can apply, having to be at least 35 years of age when submitting their essays. Their thesis, essays, or investigative works can contribute to the study of the reality of contemporary Portuguese history. The annual prize is in the amount of 5.000€.
The preserved historical heritage of the country
The project intends to promote the investigation and study of contemporary Portuguese history. It also intends to encourage new ideas that offer a better understanding and knowledge of contemporary history, being a way to appreciate and preserve our country’s heritage. The Mário Soares Award - EDP Foundation is an incentive for this investigation and an encouragement for knowledge about national history that is of public utility.
