Initiatives aim to strengthen public education through actions that promote digital inclusion and teacher training

October marks Teacher’s Day, celebrating a key figure in shaping future generations. Aware of the importance of education as a tool for social transformation and the crucial role of teachers in the holistic development of students, EDP — a company operating across all segments of the energy sector — has been promoting various initiatives to strengthen public education through digital inclusion and teacher training. Currently, more than 2,000 teachers from 250 public schools in ten states (Amapá, Espírito Santo, Tocantins, Pará, Mato Grosso, São Paulo, Piauí, Paraíba, Rio Grande do Norte, and Maranhão) are impacted by the company’s actions.

These educational projects are aligned with EDP’s social investment strategy, which includes “Education for the Future” as one of its pillars. This strategy focuses on promoting quality in both formal and informal basic education, as well as training for employment and income generation. In 2024, EDP carried out 62 education-focused projects, investing over R$ 23 million and impacting approximately 60,000 people.

One of the most established initiatives is the Escola da Energia (School of Energy) program, which for 24 years has promoted learning and engaged teachers and students in energy-related topics relevant to society and the environment. This year, around 900 teachers and 10,000 students from 44 public schools are participating in the program, being challenged to develop creative content related to the Energy Cycle. The program includes various actions aimed at teacher training and digital inclusion, such as the distribution of multimedia kits and tablets, cultural contests, and more.

Through the Digital Inclusion project, which aims to strengthen the integration of technology and education, schools received tablets, apps, and educational platforms. Teachers were trained in the practical use of technology, highlighting the positive outcomes of the training. “The course encourages us to reflect on active pedagogical practices as a more effective and engaging tool in the teaching and learning process,” said a teacher from Getúlio Vargas Municipal School in Paranaitá (MT). Another educator from Raimundo Cavalcanti Municipal School in Pedro Avelino (RN) added: “We were able to reflect on the ethical and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence and learned that the tool can assist us, as long as it is used with care and awareness.”

“We believe in the transformative power of education for society, and that’s why we’ve been promoting and improving this program for over 20 years. It aims to contribute to better student life quality and public education indicators in the communities where we operate”, says Dominic Schmal, ESG Director at EDP in South America.

EDP’s educational social programs are aligned with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda, contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially those related to quality education, reducing inequalities, and sustainable cities and communities.

Impact Talk for Educators

Next Wednesday, the 22nd, at 7 p.m., EDP will host Impact Talk, a roundtable discussion for educators. Based on the Netflix series Adolescence, the conversation will address the importance of education for the future, the risks of early adultification, and the impact of technology use on younger generations.

The event is part of the Escola da Energia program and is open to the public. To watch, simply visit http://bit.ly/LivePapodeImpacto. The roundtable will feature Ana Claudia Torezan and Michelle Asto, researchers at the Law School of Mackenzie Presbyterian University.
