EDP and AGROCANTABRIA join forces to promote solar energy in Cantabria’s livestock sector
EDP and AGROCANTABRIA have signed a pioneering collaboration agreement to promote the installation of solar PV systems at farms owned by AGC members, aiming to reduce the livestock sector’s carbon footprint and encourage the use of 100% renewable electricity.
Under the agreement, EDP will carry out a tailored feasibility assessment for each member, supported by an analysis of their energy consumption, to offer bespoke solutions that optimise costs and guarantee the renewable origin of the electricity consumed.
The initiative will initially target AGC members involved in the Sustainability Project and will then be progressively extended to the remaining members. Once the feasibility assessment is favourable, EDP will cover the upfront investment in the solar PV installation under its Energy Manager product, enabling farmers to start saving from day one and giving them the option to purchase the installation from the second year onwards.
“This agreement reinforces our commitment to the energy transition and the sustainable development of the agriculture and livestock sector,” said Mikel Bengoetxea Larrinaga, Head of B2B Sales Channels at EDP for Northern Spain. “We want livestock farmers to be able to generate their own clean energy and reduce emissions without any upfront costs.”
Jacobo Alonso, Managing Director of AGROCANTABRIA, emphasised that “this partnership with EDP is an opportunity for our members to move towards a more efficient and environmentally sustainable energy model, benefiting from preferential terms and the experience of a leader in renewable energy”.
In addition, all electricity supply contracts linked to the project will come with Guarantees of Origin, certifying that all the electricity supplied comes from renewable sources.
