EDP, a global leader in sustainability according to the GRESB index, has developed an artistic intervention with the Asturias Down Syndrome Association that transforms an electrical substation in Gijón into a space that reflects diversity and positive energy. This initiative is part of the company's communication and social commitment plan, which reinforces its commitment to inclusion and creativity in urban space.

The artistic intervention, developed by a group of more than 30 young people from the Asturian Down syndrome association, transforms a technical asset into a symbol of diversity and sustainability.

The project, which has been an opportunity for the participants to develop their artistic talent and enjoy an enriching experience, sharing enthusiasm and creativity, is part of EDP's strategy after achieving the highest score (100 out of 100) in the international GRESB index, which assesses the ESG (environmental, social and governance) performance of companies and infrastructure globally, in this case, in electricity distribution.

This recognition positions EDP's distribution activity in Spain as the most sustainable in the world, leading among more than 650 entities evaluated. The artistic initiative reinforces the social dimension of this achievement, aligning technical excellence with corporate responsibility.

Jorge González-Palacios, Councillor for Institutional Relations and Youth at Gijón City Council, said: "Congratulations to EDP on being recognised as the world's leading company in sustainability according to the GRESB index. This recognition is also a source of joy for the people of Gijón, as EDP's good practices in sustainability, social performance and governance reinforce the company's commitment to our region. I would also like to congratulate EDP for organising this artistic initiative with the Down Syndrome Association of Asturias, which not only serves to enrich our environment, but above all gives visibility to the association, strengthens its inclusion and promotes its active integration into our society. I would also like to congratulate the Down Syndrome Association of Asturias.  Through their artistic work, they have shown us their talent, skill, sensitivity, imagination and ability to create incredible spaces. "

The energy company's Head of Sustainability, Lucía Santalla, emphasised that "we are transforming a technical space into a place that inspires inclusion and diversity. This action reflects our commitment to Asturias and to integrating sustainability, innovation and social responsibility into our DNA. Additionally, initiatives such as this one add to our leadership in sustainability, endorsed by the highest score (100/100) in the international GRESB index, which assesses the environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance of companies globally "

The president of the Down Syndrome Association of Asturias, Javier Menéndez, acknowledged that "for us, this initiative is an opportunity to showcase the talent and creativity of people with Down syndrome. We would like to thank EDP for its commitment to inclusion and for opening up spaces where diversity becomes art. "

This action is part of a series of artistic interventions in different cities throughout 2026, which aims to bring energy to the community and create inclusive and creative spaces.
