Thirty University of Oviedo students complete their training programme
The thirty students from the University of Oviedo who participated in the Martín González del Valle Scholarship Programme during this academic year received their diplomas today at a ceremony held in the auditorium of EDP’s headquarters in Oviedo.
During the event, Ignacio Villaverde, Rector of the University of Oviedo, and Duarte Bello, CEO of EDP in Spain, congratulated the students on the work they had carried out over the past months and highlighted the importance of collaboration between universities and companies in fostering the development of young talent.
During his speech, Duarte Bello, CEO of EDP Spain, highlighted the contribution made by the students to the company and noted that programmes such as this bring new perspectives, knowledge and young talent into the organisation. He also encouraged participants to continue their education and embrace the challenges of a sector undergoing profound transformation.
For his part, Ignacio Villaverde, Rector of the University of Oviedo, stated that “our collaboration with EDP is an excellent example of the importance of strong links between universities and businesses, as it offers our students a unique opportunity to complement their academic education with real-world experience in the labour market.” He also thanked EDP for its commitment to talent development through a programme that, over the last decades, has helped “enhance our students’ employability and strengthen their preparation for their future careers.”
Speaking on behalf of the students, Marcos Álvarez, a scholarship recipient in the Communications team, shared his experience during the programme and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to become part of the day-to-day activities of an international company, contributing to real projects and working alongside professionals from different areas of the business.
The students have now completed the training period they began several months ago across different departments and EDP workplaces. During this time, they undertook paid internships and participated in projects linked to various areas of the company’s activity, supported by mentors who guided their learning and professional development.
The Martín González del Valle Scholarships are the result of a partnership between EDP and the University of Oviedo. The initiative has been running since 1983 and has enabled hundreds of students to complete practical training within the company, with more than one hundred later joining EDP to develop their professional careers.
