Students from the Penlés Integration Support Center participate in the release of 20,000 trout fingerlings in the Narcea River
The users of the Integration Support Center (CAI) in Penlés have participated in the release of fry in the Narcea river. The activity took place in the Los Nogales Park area, in Cangas del Narcea, and was organized by the EDP Foundation and the Fuentes del Narcea Fishing Association. In total, around 20,000 trout fry were released.
During the day, the students learned about the characteristics of the used trout, their life cycle, and the importance of these actions for the conservation of the river ecosystem from the members of the Fishing Association.
The president of the association, Román Herrero, highlighted that “restocking activities are essential to maintain biodiversity and ensure the continuity of native species.” For his part, the executive director of the EDP Foundation, Juan García-Ovies, pointed out that “this activity unites two fundamental commitments for the EDP Foundation: caring for the natural environment and promoting social inclusion.”
The Fuentes del Narcea Fishing Association participates in the restocking of Asturian rivers in compliance with the calendar of the Ministry of Rural Affairs and Territorial Cohesion. For more than two decades, it has had the collaboration of the EDP Foundation, whose commitment to fish restocking extends to other Asturian rivers.
