Our interns’ first volunteering experience on Xagó beach
A group of 30 interns, together with the members of the Red Natural de Asturias (RENA) and our colleagues Esther González (Head of Volunteering at EDP) and Julia Basteiro (People Business Partner), enjoyed a morning on Xagó beach.
In this protected landscape of Cabo Peñas, they collaborated in a waste collection, where they were able to collect almost 310 kilos, including several pallets, the usual plastic waste and other items. This initiative, promoted by EDP Volunteering, seeks to raise awareness about the importance of keeping natural environments clean.
The interns described it as a unique and enriching experience that they would definitely do again. ‘Most internships don't usually offer activities like this, which I think is a useful way to get a fresh perspective on environmental awareness in places we are already familiar with’ Laura Argüelles pointed out. They were surprised by everything they found, ‘Even a wheel!’ Lucía Cases exclaimed.
Thanks to the Martín González del Valle Scholarships from EDP, students of the University of Oviedo are given the opportunity to put into practice the knowledge they acquire in their degrees. In addition, they can learn and develop professionally over a period of nine months by being part of different departments within the EDP group while experiencing a dynamic working environment.
