More than 300 EDP Redes España professionals analyze the challenges of power grids at the Niemeyer
More than 300 professionals from EDP Redes España gathered at the Niemeyer Centre in Avilés for a meeting focused on the key challenges facing electricity distribution networks in a context of increasing electrification and transformation of the energy system.
Held in Asturias, a region with a strong energy tradition and long-standing links to the development and operation of electricity infrastructure, the event highlighted the crucial role of power grids in meeting growing demand and supporting an increasingly complex energy system.
The meeting focused on the main drivers shaping the evolution of electricity networks. Safety was reaffirmed as the starting point and a non-negotiable principle across all activities. Discussions also addressed network digitalisation and modernisation through increasingly automated, intelligent and resilient systems, as well as the need to respond to new energy demand at a time when electrification is accelerating, requiring existing infrastructure to be upgraded and reinforced.
During his speech, Francisco Rodríguez, CEO of EDP Redes España, said: "Our priority is to ensure safety and guarantee continuity of supply at all times. Power grids are the foundation that enables the integration of renewable energy, the electrification of the economy and the ability to meet increasingly demanding energy needs."
The event featured technical presentations and also showcased the daily work carried out by the teams responsible for operating the network, from the control centre to field operations, in an environment where coordination and fast decision-making are essential. This work is fundamental. Behind every electricity supply are coordinated teams, technical expertise and real-time decisions that ensure everything runs smoothly.
According to the TIEPI index (Installed Capacity Equivalent Interruption Time), which measures the quality of electricity supply provided by distribution companies, EDP Redes España has the best electricity supply quality in Spain. The company achieved a TIEPI value of 19 minutes over the last year.
