The energy sector strengthens the integration of nature into business practices
The Natural Capital and Energy Working Group—which includes EDP and other companies in the sector—has published a document marking a step forward in how nature is integrated into business decision‑making.
The report identifies the impacts generated by energy infrastructure (land use, water use, emissions, waste and biodiversity) and the natural factors on which it depends on to operate (water availability, climate regulation and ecosystem stability). It also introduces a territorial perspective for the first time, highlighting the importance of environmentally sensitive locations.
EDP’s contribution focuses on providing data, technical expertise and operational experience to develop a common, rigorous methodology that will enable companies to assess environmental risks and opportunities more consistently. This will enable companies to anticipate risks, plan projects more effectively and meet new European sustainability requirements.
In short, this work helps the sector integrate nature from the outset, make more informed decisions and move towards an energy transition that is fully compatible with the environment’s limits.
