Over 100 young people have taken part in this rural initiative, whose latest edition was held in Zaragoza

EDP, a leader in renewable energy, has successfully completed the fifth edition of the Skills Energy Professionals programme, an initiative promoted in collaboration with the global wind energy solutions company Vestas and the Wind Energy Business Association (AEE), which aims to train young people in rural areas to work in the maintenance of wind farms, promoting a fair energy transition and helping to curb depopulation.

The closing event took place at the Vestas facilities in Zaragoza and was attended by the 24 young people who successfully completed this edition of the programme, coming from Pozo Cañada and Munera (Albacete); Tarifa and Vejer de la Frontera (Cádiz); Huesca, Chimillas (Huesca), Azuara and Mezquita de Loscos (Zaragoza); Cangas del Narcea, Tineo and Gijón (Asturias); Almazán and Soria (Soria); Castejón (Navarra); Merindad de Río Ubierna (Burgos); Carmona (Seville), and Barcelona (Catalonia).

During the ceremony, Juan Virgilio Márquez, Director General of the AEE; Jonathan Lázaro, Director of Service Iberia at Vestas; and Alfredo Menéndez, Head of Community Engagement at EDP in Iberia, highlighted the importance of the wind energy sector as an economic driver and a source of employment opportunities for young people.

Participants received their certificates after successfully completing the training, consisting of 176 hours of blended learning, combining online theory and in-person practical training conducted at Vestas' operation and maintenance centre in Zaragoza, as well as GWO-approved practical training in occupational risk prevention and working at height, which qualifies them to work on all types of wind power installations.

Since its launch, more than 100 young people have improved their employability thanks to this initiative. With more than 650 GW installed globally, wind energy offers numerous job opportunities, especially in operation and maintenance, establishing itself as a key sector in the energy transition.

With this successful conclusion, EDP once again reinforces its commitment to youth training, energy transition and the development of local communities.
