EDP has launched an innovative initiative to promote the circular economy in the textile sector. The project, developed in collaboration with Moda re-, the cooperative promoted by Cáritas specialising in textile recycling, has recycled 2,840 kilos of workwear and avoided the emission of 71,100 kilos of CO ₂.

In this way, the company is strengthening its commitment to sustainability and pursuing solutions to reduce the environmental impact of its operations, making the most of available resources and extending the service life of materials that would otherwise go to waste.

Thanks to Moda re-'s technology and expertise, the company's workwear that can no longer be used undergoes sorting, shredding and defibration processes, turning it into raw material suitable for manufacturing new garments or textile products.

This initiative turns what was once valueless waste into a new resource, returning it to the production cycle, reducing waste and encouraging responsible textile‑waste management practices.

In addition to the environmental benefit, the initiative generates a positive social impact. Moda re- operates through social and employment integration programmes, employing people in vulnerable circumstances who find in this sector an opportunity for training, support and access to the labour market.

In this way, EDP's project not only promotes a transition towards more sustainable models, but also supports inclusive employment and local value creation.

Following these positive results, EDP is now working to extend the initiative to other countries where it operates, with the aim of consolidating it as part of its global sustainability strategy. The company continues to identify new opportunities to apply circular economy principles and move towards an energy model that is more environmentally and socially responsible.
