The EDP Energía Solidaria programme is investing almost €1 million in initiatives that bring together social innovation, sustainability and support for vulnerable groups across six Spanish regions

The EDP Foundation has unveiled the 12 projects selected for the 2025/2026 edition of the EDP Energía Solidaria programme, an initiative that promotes a just energy transition in Spain and drives innovative solutions to improve the quality of life of vulnerable individuals and communities. In this edition, the EDP Foundation will allocate almost €1 million to support proposals that combine renewable energy, energy efficiency, the circular economy, climate action and specialised training.

The programme builds on a track record that, since 2015, has supported more than 200 projects in Spain, with a cumulative investment of over €7 million and a positive impact on more than 620,000 people.

The 2025/2026 edition has registered a notable increase in participation, with over 100 projects submitted and a significant improvement in the variety and quality of the applications. Of these, 12 have been selected for funding. The initiatives will be carried out in Aragon, Andalusia, Asturias, the Community of Madrid, the Valencian Community and Extremadura, with a particular focus on regions in transition, rural areas and vulnerable groups.

The selected projects reflect the wide range of approaches required today for a just energy transition. Some of them focus on creating local energy communities, combining renewable energy self-consumption with certified training to improve the employability of people at risk of social exclusion. Others are committed to the circular economy, through the reuse of electronic waste or the recycling of batteries, whilst incorporating pathways to social and labour market integration. Other initiatives strengthen energy resilience in territories affected by extreme weather events, as well as bringing the energy transition closer to rural areas through demonstration spaces, participatory methodologies or socio-ecological restoration actions.

The director of the EDP Foundation, Vanda Martins, noted that “people are always the most important thing: those who lead the projects, those who take part, and those who benefit from them. They are the reason this program exists.

Every initiative we select has a tangible impact, improving lives and transforming communities, and that is what gives meaning to our work.”

These are the projects selected for the 2025/26 edition of EDP Energía Solidaria:

Aragon

  • AgroV Network / Verdea Network (EFELEC Consulting) Integration of photovoltaic and agrovoltaic energy with local training and employment in Fuentes de Rubielos.

Valencian Community

  • Just energy transition for the Third Sector in areas affected by the DANA (Fundación Amigó): Creation of an energy community and certified training for people at risk of social exclusion.
  • Tejiendo Energía Justa (AVAESEN) Green Offices, municipal training and the involvement of vulnerable families in energy communities.

Asturias

  • Emmaus RAEECircular (Riquirraque Emmaus) A new WEEE reuse initiative offering technical training and raising awareness of the circular economy.
  • PILAPOLOS (7R Servitec Inserta) A workshop specialising in the recycling of batteries and electronic devices, with a focus on social and labour market inclusion.

Extremadura

  • Dehesa Viva (Compañía Maximalista S. Coop.) A rural energy transition demonstration centre offering practical, replicable solutions.

Andalusia

  • Inclusive Roots (PRODE Foundation): Socio-ecological restoration and inclusive employment on the Guadiato Greenway.
  • Energy Sentinels (Ecoherencia): A Living Lab for social and energy innovation in municipalities in transition.

Community of Madrid

  • Redes Vecinales y Escuelas en Transición (Tangente Cooperative Group) An integrated model to tackle energy poverty in schools and vulnerable neighbourhoods.
  • Cultiva Futuro (CONCAES) Training in regenerative agriculture for people in prison.
  • Mujeres en Movimiento (Trabe Association) Training in sustainable mobility and renewable energy for women in vulnerable situations.

Taken together, these initiatives show how the energy transition can become a lever for social transformation when driven by innovation, collaboration between organisations and the active involvement of communities. EDP Foundation thus reaffirms its commitment to a more sustainable and equitable energy model, aligned with the EDP Group’s vision and focused on generating a lasting impact on people and communities.
