EDP has appointed Duarte Bello as head of the energy group in Spain and Portugal; he will also serve as CEO of EDP Spain, as confirmed by EDP Spain’s Board of Directors, replacing Pedro Vasconcelos.

With this appointment, Duarte Bello assumes responsibility for the EDP Group’s operations in Iberia, as well as those in the rest of Europe – a responsibility he has held since 2024 – within the company’s structure, which is organised into five regions (Iberia, Europe, North America, South America and Asia-Pacific).

Duarte Bello joined EDP in 2006 in the Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) and Corporate Development department, which he headed between 2009 and 2017. In this role, he led international transactions in Europe, the United States, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region, and also contributed to shaping the Group’s strategy. He has also served as Chief of Staff to the CEO and has been a member of the EDP Group’s Investment Committee.

He has been a member of the executive committee of EDPR since 2017. EDPR is the Group’s renewables subsidiary, headquartered in Spain, where he leads the strategy for renewable energy projects and corporate solutions in Europe.

Bello holds a degree in Business Administration from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, an MBA from INSEAD and a postgraduate qualification from Harvard Business School.
