Bakelite Synthetics partners with EDP to launch its first photovoltaic installation in Spain
Bakelite Synthetics (‘Bakelite’), a leading producer of phenolic resins, and EDP, a world leader in renewable energy, have joined forces to launch a photovoltaic installation, Bakelite’s first in Spain, at its plant in Lantarón (Álava).
The facility includes more than 760 solar panels and enables Bakelite to reduce energy use at the Lantarón plant by 23%. With this project, both companies reinforce their commitment to one of their strategic priorities: developing innovative and sustainable efforts that improve and protect everyday life and our planet.
JP Aucoin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Bakelite, affirms: "This project marks an important milestone in Bakelite's journey towards a more sustainable future. Partnering with EDP to launch one of our first photovoltaic installations is not only a reflection of our commitment to reducing our environmental footprint, but also a powerful example of what can be achieved through collaboration. We continue to take significant steps to protect our planet while strengthening our operations and continuing our journey towards a more sustainable future."
António Araújo, Head of Client Solutions at Iberia for EDP, stated: "We are collaborating with a key industrial leader to reduce its carbon footprint and support it in meeting the EU's environmental improvement targets for 2030. We are proud to be by its side, offering solutions that drive the sector towards a more sustainable future."
With agreements such as this, EDP strengthens its position as one of the leading solar providers for businesses in Spain. Its portfolio exceeds 200 MWp installed in the country and reaches 3 GWp globally, reflecting its capacity to develop large-scale self-consumption solutions. This experience positions EDP as a strategic partner for companies committed to a more efficient, competitive and sustainable energy model.
