EDP, a company that operates in all segments of the electric sector, will install solar energy generation systems in 19 social organizations in the states of Espírito Santo (ES), Paraná (PR), and São Paulo (SP), with an investment of up to R$ 650 thousand. The objective is to contribute to the reduction of these institutions' electricity costs and to promote more sustainable operations through the use of renewable energy.

The organizations were selected through the Social Solar public notice, one of EDP's actions to promote a just energy transition, including communities in the regions where the company operates. In total, 40 initiatives were registered. These will be systems of up to 5 kWp and, as specified in the public notice, the savings generated by the use of renewable energy must be reinvested in social initiatives, expanding the positive impact of the action.

“The selection of projects reinforces our commitment to a just and inclusive energy transition while strengthening the activities and work of local organizations, which play a fundamental role with communities in our area of operation. Promoting initiatives like this is a way to join efforts to contribute to social development in these regions,” highlights Dominic Schmal, EDP's ESG director in South America.

In addition to the installation of solar panels, the organizations will also receive training in Energy Efficiency and Responsible Energy Consumption and a training cycle for the maintenance of photovoltaic systems. The implementation of photovoltaic systems is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.

About the selection and the chosen organizations

The initiatives were evaluated by a committee of experts based on the criteria defined in the regulations. The selection process considered aspects of governance, monitoring, and accountability of the reinvestment model, management capacity, and alignment with the pillars of EDP — Education for the Future and Energy for Tomorrow. The finalists also underwent validation stages for technical and structural conditions.

In Espírito Santo, the organizations that will receive the solar energy systems are from Cariacica, Ibiraçu, São Mateus, Serra, Vila Velha, and Vitória. In São Paulo, the entities are from Mogi das Cruzes, São José dos Campos, Guararema, Guarulhos, Salesópolis, and São Sebastião, and in Paraná, the selected organization is from Curitiba.

The Solar Social Call for Projects complements other EDP initiatives, such as the Solidarity Energy Call for Projects, aligned with the company's global program Y.E.S. (You Empower Society), which supports social responsibility projects aimed at a just energy transition.
