EDP signs agreement with Martifer for the development of new hydroelectric projects in the Vouga and Paiva rivers

Wednesday, 27 June 2007

Today, EDP - Energias de Portugal, S.A. signed a memorandum of understanding with EVIVA ENERGY, S.A. ("Eviva Energy"), a company 100% held by Martifer, SGPS, S.A., for the joint development of hydro power generation projects in the hydrological basins of the Vouga and Paiva rivers, in Portugal.

The agreement signed today is based on the general guidelines for the establishment of a partnership to identify, analyse and eventually develop opportunities for the joint execution of hydro power plant projects in the two hydrological basins of the above-mentioned rivers.

Within the scope of this agreement, each project will be undertaken through a company created for this purpose, with the following participations in its share capital: EDP Produção 55% and Eviva Energy 45%.
This agreement comes in line with the existing plan for the development of new hydro capacity in Portugal, through which EDP plans to increase its current 4,405MW hydro capacity by an additional capacity of 1,000MW until 2015.
