The energy sector is experiencing significant changes from disruptions caused by new technologies.

To promote innovation within the group and establish EDP as a leading player in the global energy market, the EDP Innovation Immersion Program was developed.

Objectives of the program:

We expect to demonstrate the reality of a rapidly changing industry to instil or augment a sense of urgency. Also, this program will bridge the gap between Innovation teams and Business Units through the establishment of a common language and the reinforcing of avenues for clearer communication.

To share experience and ideas more efficiently, the participants of this program will come from different geographies, where the EDP Group operates, and from different Business Units.

Lastly, we expect to spark ideas with immediate application to participating Business Units or champion startups within EDPs Startup Engagement team.

Previous Edition:

The second edition of this program will take place in China for an 100% virtual experience. Participants will be able to meet and work with companies with innovative technologies and methodologies from the ecosystems of Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen.

The program will have some of the best Venture Capitalist and their portfolio companies from the capital sharing their solutions, it will tap into the supply chain wonder that is Shenzhen and will provide interactions with some of the leading corporate giants in innovation of the country. In Shanghai, they will also meet some of CEIBS most praised academics, shedding some light into growth of the Chinese economy and how and why innovation took off.

First Edition:

In the previous edition, we took advantage of a unique opportunity and launched the first 100% virtual innovation immersion program. On the week of the 11th of May, 82 EDP participants from Portugal, Spain, Brazil and the US experienced the innovation ecosystem of the San Francisco bay area at the comfort of their homes.

They met with some of the biggest local Venture Capitalists (a16z, Lux Capital), learnt all about the largest startup accelerator in the world (Plug and Play), had a chat with Sumo Logic (a cloud-based machine data analytics unicorn), met Google X’s Quantum computing team and learnt all about the electric mobility market in the US with Proterra.

As for key note sessions, they met Patrick Lee the founder and former CEO of Rotten Tomatoes where he spoke about focus, Steve Blank the father of the Lean startup taught his corporate innovation methodologies and finally they were challenged by Alberto Savoia a former google veteran on incorporating some Pretotyping ideas at EDP.

In all, there were more than 1200 entries in the platform's auditorium and almost 900 entries in the webinars. From this program, more than 30 requests for follow-up meetings with start-ups and companies were made, which shows the potential of these meetings in generating business opportunities.
