Schoolchildren from Sagunto take part in an artistic intervention at La Pinaeta TC together with the EDP Foundation
An educational programme promoted by the EDP Foundation that aims to foster environmental education from an early age and encourage values such as caring for the planet.
The EDP Foundation held an educational and artistic event in Sagunto as part of its "Dale Voz a la Tierra"(Give Voice to the Earth) programme, an initiative that promotes environmental education, inclusion and social commitment from an early age. The activity brought together primary and special education students at the La Pinaeta Transformation Centre, turning this energy facility into a symbol of shared values. These include caring for the planet and the responsible use of energy.
50 sixth-grade students from Ausiàs March Primary School in Sagunto and 15 students from the Albanta-Sagunt special education centre participated in the event. They created a collective artistic intervention at the transformation centre, turning it into a canvas that conveys messages of sustainability, diversity and inclusion.
This initiative was complemented by an educational workshop from the “Energy School”, delivered by the EDP Foundation and EDP Networks Spain, in which students learned about how a transformer centre works and its essential role within the electricity system, bringing the world of energy closer to younger citizens.
Students at Ausiàs March Primary School are also among the 13 schools participating in the "Dale Voz a la Tierra" (Give Voice to the Earth) school competition for primary education, which encourages reflection and creativity around today's environmental challenges. The collaboration with the Albanta-Sagunt special education centre reinforces the inclusive nature of the project and promotes the exchange of experiences in an educational and creative environment.
Raúl Palmero Plumed, Councillor for Education at Sagunto City Hall, attended the event and stated that "we value EDP's confidence in Sagunto to promote projects that foster solidarity, respect for the environment and collaboration between schools, businesses and the administration. These are initiatives that generate solutions and contribute to the progress and a better future for our citizens."
“Activities like this are very important for our students, as they allow them to become familiar with energy, and if we add an artistic activity, their enthusiasm increases significantly and they enjoy it much more,” says Nestor Arres Fernández, head of studies at Ausiàs March Primary School in Sagunto.
Ramón Vidal Ortega, head of EDP Networks Spain in the region, highlighted the company's presence in the area since 2000 with substations in Valencia, Aldaya, Quart de Poblet and Sagunto, but above all, he stressed that it is essential to bring energy closer to citizens from an early age. Today we had the opportunity to show schoolchildren how a transformation centre works, combining this with values such as sustainability and inclusion."
With initiatives like this, the EDP Foundation reinforces its commitment to sustainable development and to generating a positive impact in the regions where it operates, integrating education, social innovation and inclusion as strategic pillars of its work. This approach is part of EDP's global commitment to excellence in ESG criteria, demostrated, among other indicators, by the 100 points obtained by EDP Networks Spain in the GRESB index, one of the leading international benchmarks for assessing of sustainability in the energy sector.
"At the EDP Foundation, we work to bring energy and sustainability closer to citizens from an early age. Actions such as this show that education and creativity are essential tools for building a more inclusive, diverse and responsible future. It is a source of pride to see how students transform an energy facility into a symbol of commitment to the planet." Jorgelina Exposito Blanco
