EDP partners with IGAT (SIAD Group) to deploy its largest solar power plant with storage in Italy

IGAT, an Italian chemical company belonging to The SIAD Group and specializing in the production of industrial gases such as oxygen, nitrogen, and argon, and EDP Energia Italia, the Italian division of the EDP Group and a European leader in distributed solar generation, have signed a partnership to build a distributed generation (DG) photovoltaic plant—the largest EDP project in Italy integrated with a storage system.

The solar plant will be installed at IGAT's industrial site in the province of Caserta, and will have a total capacity of 2.5 MWp, boosting the company’s flexibility in energy management and enhancing its decarbonization. IGAT recently secured funding through Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) for its "Green Hydrogen" initiative, which will produce green hydrogen through an electrolyzer powered by EDP's photovoltaic plant.

The solar plant, expected to become operational this year, will consist of more than 3,400 photovoltaic panels installed at IGAT's facilities and will generate about 3.5 GWh of energy per year. At the same time, the storage system will have an installed capacity of 1 MWh, which will allow excess energy generated during low-demand periods to be stored and available whenever it’s needed. This capacity allows for up to two hours of energy storage at full power.

Thanks to this solution, the production site will reduce its dependence on the electricity grid, while benefiting from a significant reduction in energy costs and decreasing CO₂ emissions by over 1,100 tons per year, an amount equivalent to the carbon dioxide absorbed by over 7,000 trees.

Sustainability and environmental protection projects have become a key focus for our company, in line with the vision of The SIAD Group. Our partnership with EDP—a reliable and professional partner—helps us strengthen our commitment to these goals. Clean energy brings both economic and environmental benefits, and through these initiatives, we continue to move forward on our path toward greater environmental responsibility.
Massimo Iorio
Ceo of IGAT
This project reflects EDP’s commitment to the energy transition in Italy and to delivering sustainable, cost-effective solutions to our clients. We’re proud to partner with SIAD Group to support decarbonization in a key industrial sector and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Integrating storage systems into decentralized generation is crucial to fully harness renewable energy, ensure grid stability, and boost energy independence. With nearly 150 MWp of contracted capacity across Italy, EDP is helping drive initiatives that bring lasting benefits to local communities and the environment.
António Ricciardi
Head of the Client Solutions business in Europe at EDP

IGAT, Industria Gas Tecnici S.p.A., founded in 1991, joined The SIAD Group in 2020. Strategically located in central-southern Italy, IGAT is one of the region’s leading producers of cryogenic gases. Thanks to its position, it can efficiently serve major industrial hubs. To meet the needs of large clients, IGAT has continually expanded its production capacity.

EDP is actively engaged in developing solar and storage projects across Europe, working with clients ranging from small and medium-sized businesses to large industrial enterprises.

This partnership marks a tangible step toward a sustainable energy transition, demonstrating how collaboration between major energy players and industrial groups like The SIAD Group—committed to sustainable development—can accelerate renewable adoption and promote the implementation of more sustainable and responsible practices.
