It is never too late to learn, sow and harvest
EDP supported the Agroforestry of the Future project, an initiative that promotes inclusive (re)education, in some rural locations in Ceará, Brazil.
Caucaia, São Gonçalo, Itaitinga and Sobral
With a view to protecting and expanding biodiversity, model agroforest systems were developed with 90 young people, using permanent sustainable practices.
With a strong focus on training, the goal was to ensure that, in the near future, they would be able to develop their own agroforest and guarantee their means of financial subsistence. The project lasted 12 months.
São Gonçalo do Amarante
In this region, thanks to the Agroforestry of the Future project, the course on agroforest systems (120 hours) and the theoretical-practical course on live food cooking (40 hours) were carried out. The objective is to promote the increase of biodiversity, food production, soil enrichment, and intergenerational relationships. They had the participation of 50 young people and 150 elderly people (from communities supported by the Beneficent Association Casa da União - Coração de Maria).
The actions also included the implementation of 1200 m² of agroforestry, ensuring the necessary infrastructure for food production.
During the activities, which lasted six months, there were also talks, foot baths, a bread-making course, and an enriching exchange of experiences and knowledge. "This here is something from God. We learn to plant, to harvest, and to make new friendships," said one of the elderly participants, in an overview tone.
