Chilean architect Alejandro Aravena, who has won a Pritzker prize in 2016, has been chosen to design the new EDP building in Lisbon's riverside area.

EDP is always thinking of the future and of new ways of working.

The new EDP building in Lisbon, to be built close to the company headquarters on Avenida 24 de Julho, replacing another EDP building located on Rua Dom Luís I, will house about 800 employees from various business areas.

For this project, EDP has invited a 2016 Pritzker Prize awardee - Chilean architect Alejandro Aravena, who will lend the work an aesthetic language based on the use and potential of concrete.

This new workspace will feature focus/concentration areas, informal meeting venues, spontaneous writing and communication spaces, lounge areas, a workcafe, a speedmeeting area, a standup meeting area, and spaces for more formal meetings.

The construction of the new building is expected to begin in February 2020, and its completion is scheduled for the first half of 2022. The building will have a gross construction area of 23,800 m2 and a useful service area of 11,400 m2, in addition to four parking floors with 257 spaces, of which 97 will be public.
