In several geographies where EDP is present, the Energy Campaign is an initiative to mark World Energy Day, including different volunteer initiatives.
Since the beginning of the 1980s, more specifically since 1981, World Energy Day has been celebrated on May 29, aiming to raise people's awareness of the importance of saving energy and its environmental impacts, in addition to motivating the use of energy renewable energy.
To celebrate World Energy Day, since 2018, EDP prepares a month (May to June) of volunteering initiatives and shares the skills of its employees with the world and the communities where it operates. Through the Volunteer Program, the company's employees help highlight the positive way in which we all relate to energy, being present in schools, social organizations and local communities.
Energy Campaign: volunteering initiatives
This program is made up of several volunteer initiatives, involving our employees and making their positive energy available in schools, local communities or social organizations.
Energy Classes
Through Energy Classes, EDP volunteers share their know-how with young people and introduce them to the world of energy, climate change and renewable energies. In 2022 it became a global initiative with the same content for the various geographies.
In addition to this initiative, in each geography other initiatives were promoted with the aim of impacting and benefiting their communities:
Portugal: Energy Solidarity Week Initiative
In the Energy Solidarity Week 2022, EDP volunteers worked together with the NGO Médicos do Mundo to transform the community of Castanheira de Pêra, in Portugal. The development of this initiative led to the rehabilitation of a school and the promotion of intergenerational workshops for children and the elderly. About 152 volunteers participated in this initiative for 4 days.
Spain: Solidarity challenge/Move your heart
In Spain, volunteers, family and friends of employees were challenged to put their energy into action and cover kilometers, walking, running or cycling, with each KM reverting to a donation made by Fundación EDP to the NGO Asociación de Ayuda to Ukraine desde Asturias (Aid Association for Ukraine from Asturias).
Brazil: Solidarity kilometer
Also in Brazil, sport was a protagonist in this Campaign and with the motto "The Energy that moves EDP and our people", EDP Brasil launched the challenge for volunteers to activate their energy by walking, running or cycling, and each KM traveled will benefit the NGO that each volunteer selected in the KM Solidário application and allowed the planting of 1,000 trees.
In EDP, the solidary and social component is well alive in this Energy Campaign and their volunteering actions. The change in the World is only viable with the contribution of everyone.
