Children can go to the zoo without leaving home in their week off school with EDP Comercial
Customers can enroll their children for virtual visits to the zoo so that the kids can enjoy watching the antics of dolphins, tigers, and other animals there. Enrollments are now open for Planet Zero, EDP's sustainability program.
From January 3 to 9, when the schools will be closed due to COVID-19 containment measures, EDP Comercial's Planet Zero is opening the door to adventure. Every day, at 11 a.m., kids can visit the zoo and take a virtual dive with the dolphins, go on a safari or get up close and personal with the tigers, birds, meerkats, and even some primates without leaving home.
Biologists are going to use the Zoom platform to explain the characteristics, curiosities and behaviors of some of the most emblematic species in the zoo. Kids can have front row seats to watch routines like feeding time for some of the animals.
On Monday January 3, the experience involves an hour-long safari around the zoo in search of species that live in the savanna. Tuesday morning is devoted to dolphins, penguins, and other marine species. On Wednesday 5, the morning will be devoted to tigers. On Thursday, join us to explore the fascinating world of birds. You'll be able to meet the meerkats on Friday 7, and the primates on Saturday. On Sunday 9, the last day, the morning will be devoted to the preservation of these species and the impact that humans can have on their survival or extinction.
In order to participate, EDP Comercial customers must sign up for EDP’s Planet Zero, the company's sustainability program that fosters changes in habits and behavior. Created in 2020, it already has more than 500,000 registered customers who earn points for sustainable behavior, which they can then exchange for experiences and discounts within a network of partners with environmental concerns.
Here are all the initiatives:
January 3: Safari at the zoo
It's not every day that we have a safari at the Zoo. Will you be there? Bring the children and we will be guided by an explorer who will take us on a fantastic adventure in search of the species that live in the savanna. Are you ready? Along the way you'll have to help him decipher clues that will lead us to these amazing animals.
January 4: A dive into the ocean
Nothing like diving into the ocean to observe marine life. Get ready with the kids to eat breakfast with penguins and learn to fish with pelicans and dolphins. You will have the opportunity to watch feeding time, observe natural behavior, and watch animal handlers at work.
January 5: On the Tiger Valley trail
Do you want to get a closer look at the Tiger Valley cats? This workshop is for you and the kids! On this special visit, we will give you an exclusive chance to see the enrichment of the tigers’ environment and their reaction to it. An expert will tell you about the characteristics of these big cats, and talk about threats to their existence, among other surprises. At the end, you can also play a game and test your knowledge.
January 6: A flight in the Enchanted Forest
Today is the day for you to take off in the Enchanted Forest! Do you know how to distinguish birds from other animal groups? Do all birds fly? Are birds' beaks all the same? Discover these and other interesting facts at this workshop, and meet the handlers who care for these fascinating animals on a daily basis.
January 7: The wonderful world of meerkats
It's impossible not to love meerkats! Did you know that these sociable animals form colonies, and that all meerkats have their own tasks? Would you like to find out more interesting facts about these small mammals? Get ready with the kids, and find out all about these fantastic animals.
January 8: Tour of the Primate Temple
The zoo biologist will take you on a tour around the Primate Temple to see the different species that live there. Did you know that not all primates are monkeys? Or that there are primates that can make tools to help them find food? You can get answers to all these questions if you don’t miss this event.
January 9: From A to Zebra
You have probably heard of good environmental practices. Do you know how to reduce our environmental footprint? The zoo animals can help! On this virtual visit, we're going to see species that are threatened by human activity. An interactive game will help us understand the problem of decreasing biodiversity and discover best practices for a sustainable lifestyle.
