EDP reinforces its investment in electric mobility
Purchase of 25 Nissan Leaf to renew its vehicle fleet. Tariff for customers offers 15.000km of electricity to owners of electric cars.
EDP is investing in electric mobility. The purchase of 25 Nissan Leaf to strengthen its fleet is the latest proof of the company's commitment to switch to more sustainable forms of transportation, in both economic and environmental terms.
The acquisition was marked today with the formal delivery of the vehicles by the Head of the Nissan in Portugal, Guillaume Masurel, to the administrator of EDP, Rui Teixeira. 'EDP is strongly committed to combating climate change, one of the greatest threats to Mankind. In our business plan, we assume goals and commitments, and promoting electric mobility is part of the main goals, which are to invest on renewable energy sources and greater energy efficiency, essential conditions to reduce emissions', said the EDP manager.
Guillaume Masurel, General Director of Nissan in Portugal, said: 'The choosing of Nissan Zero Emissions Vehicle solutions by companies represents the recognition of the benefits of this mobility solution, not only for the company's image, but also, and significantly, in terms of operating costs related to their vehicle fleets. Therefore, we were very excited to see reference entities such as EDP investing in a such a clear and decisive way in our all-electric powered vehicles. Our leadership in Europe in sales for 100% electric vehicle fleets is the corollary of that preference by companies'.
The 25 vehicles will be placed at the service of the various companies of the EDP Group, with the benefits of lower emissions and operating costs. These Nissan Leaf, with a 24 kWh battery, provide an autonomy of 199 km. As for the model with the 30kWh battery, it provides an autonomy of 250 km.
In EDP's vehicle fleet, one of the greenest in the country, 750 of the 2,500 vehicles annually travel less than 20,000 km, an eligible universe for short- and medium- term electrification, depending on the evolution of technology, in terms of autonomy.
Along with the gradual investment on the electrification of the fleet, EDP promotes the use of electric cars among the general public.
Special tariff for customers who own electric cars
EDP has been stimulating the market of electric mobility since 2014, when it launched its first offer for residential customers. The offer consists of special tariffs, with discounts for night hours, which is when electric vehicles are typically charged. Charging stations are also available, which charge electric vehicles in a safer and faster way. This equipment can be paid in 24 monthly installments, along with the energy bill. This offer also includes EDP's home management system: Re:dy, which allows monitoring consumption and control the devices plugged in at home.
Simultaneously, EDP has developed partnerships with 12 automakers marketing electric vehicles in Portugal. 15,000 km of free electricity are offered to the first 500 private customers who purchase an electric vehicle from one of our partners.
EDP also invests in promoting the benefits of electric mobility, with a part of the website energia.edp.pt dedicated exclusively to explaining this topic: how it works, which are the benefits to customers, where and how to charge an electric vehicle. Late last year, it organized an initiative, hosted by comedian Rui Unas, that involved testing electric vehicles, which reached about 1 million people.
