EDP launches 10km Virtual Race

Wednesday 13, May 2020

The EDP 10km Virtual Race is part of the virtual races promoted by Maratona Clube de Portugal

Maratona Clube de Portugal will promote seven virtual races in May and June. In order to find an alternative to mass participation events, the Maratona Clube de Portugal, along with its partners EDP, Vodafone, Mimosa, Renault, Jogos Santa Casa, CME, and Aguas Luso, launches a new model of races, in which runners can participate anywhere and anytime, free of charge.

The MCP intends to carry out several virtual races throughout the summer and counts on the participation of runners who have not stopped running, despite the limitations that are in place. All participants will be entitled to a digital number and, at the end of the race, to an official certificate of participation.

he first virtual race to be held will be the EDP 10km Virtual Race, which, as the name implies, will have a distance of 10 kilometers to be covered between May 22nd and 24th. Registration is free and will be open from May 14th onward on this page: www.portugal.virace.app/*

To participate, interested parties need only to register on the page created for this purpose and will automatically receive their virtual number. Once the proposed distance has been completed, the participants will have to upload their participation record from any running application for smartphones or smartwatches. Once the registration is confirmed, the participants will receive the official diploma by email. All information and instructions are available online.

The official sponsors will offer gifts to the participants, which will be sent via CTT, according to the order of arrival and up to the limit of the existing stock.

Carlos Moia, president of Maratona Clube de Portugal states that, “despite the situation we live in, the desire to run has not been confined. So we developed these virtual events. We want them to be more than competitive events, we want them to be a healthy challenge for runners and a way for them to stay connected to road running events. I ask all participants to comply with all the safety and prevention rules defined by the government when doing the virtual races. We want to stay active and together, but always safe!

EDP has been adapting to the situation that we are currently facing, and this initiative we associated with proves it. We want to continue investing in the promotion of sports and in the practice of healthy lifestyle habits. Virtual races are a continuation of what has been our strategy in recent years. In April, we promoted the Indoor Solidarity Race in Spain with the participation of more than 1200 people and now, in Portugal, we want to continue promoting the practice of sport through virtual races,” says Paulo Campos Costa, Director of Brand, Marketing, and Communication of the EDP Group.
