EDP's electricity distribution in Spain has received a score of 99 Benchmark points. This achievement makes EDP Redes España the electricity distribution company that best integrates ESG criteria into its strategy in Europe for the second consecutive year out of 100 in the GRESB index (Global Real State Sustainability).

In addition, the company leads the global index in the Performance category, in which it competes against 695 other entities from all infrastructure sectors. This distinction demonstrates EDP Redes España's firm commitment to setting measurable and comparable targets in areas such as diversity and equity, health and safety, employee engagement, as well as energy management, emissions, biodiversity and habitat management.

The GRESB index, created in 2009, is aimed at understanding the integration and development of ESG criteria in companies and is used by private and institutional investment funds as an evaluation and comparison tool to measure and assess the quality of infrastructures in these aspects related to sustainability.

Unlike other indexes, which evaluate isolated projects, GRESB measures the performance of companies in a comprehensive manner. It takes into account the environmental footprint of the asset, with the actions and efficiency measures undertaken to monitor and reduce the footprint; the direct social impact, measuring the relationship and impact of the entity on its stakeholders and the impact of its activities on society; and the governance of sustainability, taking into account the policies, procedures and approach to sustainability at the entity or organization level.

It also evaluates other aspects such as stakeholder engagement, risks and opportunities including climate change and transition, and the company's level of transparency.

“This qualification is the result of our commitment as a company to carry out a strategy that integrates sustainability in a transversal way in our activity. Moreover, achieving this recognition for the second consecutive year underlines that we are on the right path and encourages us to continue along the same path for the future,” explains Francisco Rodríguez, CEO of EDP Redes Spain.

EDP's electricity distribution activity is made up of three companies: Begasa, E-Redes and Viesgo. In total, 53,000 kilometers of electrical networks and 1.4 million supply points, which have the best electricity supply quality in the country, according to the TIEPI index (Interruption Time Equivalent to Installed Power).
