EDP brings together experts to empower action for the future of the planet
The second edition of the "We Choose Earth Tour" conference will take place on June 20 in Munich, Germany, and will gather Cate Blanchett, Ban Ki-moon and other thinkers, global leaders, and entrepreneurs to discuss a more sustainable future for the planet.
Munich, Germany, will be the stage for global dialogue on the planet's sustainable future on June 20 during the second edition of the "We Choose Earth Tour”.This event is organized by EDP, a global leader in renewable energies that is present throughout the energy sector value chain, and will bring together opinion leaders from the public, private, and social sectors in a debate aimed at inspiring collective change to ensure a more sustainable future for our planet.
Cate Blanchett and Ban Ki-moon will be two of the main speakers at this year’s event.
Cate Blanchett, Actor, Producer, and advocate for Climate Solutions, is the co-creator and co-host of Climate of Change, a podcast featuring interviews with experts and special guests discussing the biggest challenges humankind faces with the climate crisis. Cate is also a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR).
Ban Ki-moon is a former Secretary-General of the United Nations who is recognized for mobilizing political leaders on global challenges such as prioritizing sustainable development, urgent action on climate change, and energy transition. Ban Ki-moon played a crucial role in promoting international cooperation on environmental issues and in negotiating key agreements such as the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He was also named one of the "Top 100 Global Thinkers" by Foreign Policy and recognized as one of Forbes's most influential people.
Also present at the event will be Vincent Stanley, a prominent figure from Patagonia, a company known for integrating nature into its business model. This brand is committed to various environmental sustainability initiatives with its durable clothing line. Alex Honnold, a renowned professional rock climber and founder of the Honnold Foundation, focused on accelerating solar energy development in disadvantaged communities globally; and KjellNordström, a distinguished Swedish economist, writer, and speaker internationally recognized for his extensive work on globalization, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
Miguel Stilwell D’Andrade, CEO of EDP, and Vera Pinto Pereira, executive director of the company, will also be present to discuss critical topics for a rapid and fair energy transition. Sandrine Dixson-Declève, Co-President of the Club of Rome, and Patricia Espinosa, former Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), will join the dialogue. The presence of Michael Liebreich, a recognized clean energy expert and president of Liebreich Associates consultancy, and Joschka Fischer, former German Minister of Foreign Affairs and one of the most prestigious figures in the diplomatic and international world, will provide valuable perspectives on renewable energies and sustainable policies. By organizing the second edition of this conference, EDP aims to continue promoting debate on the pivotal moment society is facing and how a rapid and fair energy transition can contribute to a more sustainable planet.
This edition of the "We Choose Earth Tour" will take place in Munich as a parallel event of Smarter E-Europe, an alliance of four energy sector conferences, including Intersolar, one of the world's leading events on solar energy. Munich is a strategic location in Europe and is also one of the main cities where EDP is developing its renewable energy business.
EDP entered Germany in 2022 by acquiring Kronos Solar EDPR, a German solar energy developer. Germany is one of the countries where EDP will grow the most over the next three years, with around 500 MWp of solar projects in various stages of development and construction by 2026.
