EDP, BP and Repsol have completed the installation of all their charging points on the Via Verde Electric (Portugal's Electric Green Route)
All service stations managed by BP and Repsol on the main Brisa motorways now have EDP fast and ultra-fast charging solutions. Drivers can now travel from the North to the South of the country using electricity and without producing emissions.
All of the electric charging points serving the Via Verde Electric in the partnership between EDP Comercial and BP, Brisa and Repsol are already operational. This enables drivers wanting to use the A1, A2, A4, A6 or A9 motorways to plan their electric vehicle journeys with ease and security, there being 48 charging points in the Service Areas.
These charging zones have 50KW to 160kWh chargers. An electric vehicle can increase its range by more than 100 kilometres in less than 10 minutes if the driver chooses to use one of the ultra-fast points. It takes less than 25 minutes if a fast point is chosen. Any Electric Mobility Suppliers (CEME - Comercializadores de Mobilidade Elétrica) card can be used with these chargers. Alternatively, apps such as EDP Charge or the Via Verde app can be used.
This significant investment in expanding electric mobility in Portugal is part of the Via Verde Electric (Portugal's Electric Green Route), a project that unites some of the principal innovators in sustainable mobility in the country, in a joint effort to make long-distance journeys in an electric vehicle easier and more predictable.
Since the EDP points were installed in the BP and Repsol service areas, more than 34,000 charging sessions have taken place, enabling more than 4.5 million kilometres to be travelled powered exclusively by electricity. These journeys have prevented the emission of the more than 450 tons of CO2 that would have been emitted by internal combustion vehicles.
EDP Comercial intends to have 3,000 public points contracted on the Iberian Peninsula by the end of year and this project demonstrates its commitment to developing the national network, which will be a significant solution for the ever-increasing number of electric cars circulating on national roads. This investment is also intended to support the transition defined by the European Commission, which has proposed developing a reliable European network by installing charging points every 60 kilometres on the principal roads.
The fast and ultra-fast charging network developed by Brisa, in partnership with the main agents promoting sustainable mobility in Portugal, is the company's answer to accelerating the de-carbonisation of road transport, facilitating electric mobility and keeping pace with the adoption of more sustainable behaviour by end consumers.
For BP, providing electric charging points in its refuelling stations is one of the key goals in its sustainability policy. BP continues to work to create alternative energy solutions and products with more efficient consumption, with the aim of reducing carbon emissions. This is in harmony with its proposed "re-imagining" of energy for the people and the planet, and part of the journey to becoming a company with net zero carbon emissions by 2050, or before, and to help the world achieve the same objective.
According to Repsol, this is another contribution to the strategy for energy transition and diversification of power sources, an example of co-creation, based on inter-sectoral and intra-sectoral partnerships, impacting on the development of sustainable solutions. In addition to the installation of these charging points at 12 of its service stations, the multi-energy company aims to end the year with more than 100 electric vehicle charging points, all fast or ultra-fast, at its more than 500 service stations.
This network will then be 78% complete, counting the 151 plug-in points on the motorways operated by Brisa. When the part of the remaining partners has been completed, the Via Verde Electric will consist of 82 electric charging points, installed in 21 service areas located along the network of Brisa motorways.
