Objective: Design and prototyping of hardware and software for a station to register users and projects developed with the support of FabLab EDP.
Purpose: Internal management of FabLab EDP resources by registering users, the machines / processes used and the time spent on projects.
Process: Parametric 3D CAD design, rapid prototyping/digital manufacturing using techniques of subtractive manufacturing (CNC machining) and additive manufacturing (3D printing). Adoption of the Open Source and low-cost Raspberry Pi computer.
Method: 3D modelling in Solidworks; CNC machining of expanded PVC sheet for the structure and base; 3D printing of various parts; assembly of electrical/electronic components and their electrification; programming of the Raspberry Pi computer in kiosk mode using the Node.js framework with local file storage. FabLab EDP developed this solution entirely in-house for the purpose of managing the laboratory's projects and users, and its range of resources. In line with the philosophy of the FabLabs network, the 3D models and configuration of this kiosk have been made available as Open Source so that the solution can be replicated by other FabLabs.
